Hindi is not a mother tongue for all the Indians. In India every people are having their own mother tongue as like their mother.Hindi is declared as an official language for communication between the states and officials. There should be some language for communication it can be any language even it can be a mere sigh as being used by deaf and dum.At the time of proposing the Hindi as National Language the team members would have been mostly Hindi speeking people, that is why they have given that treatment. And finally nearly 400 yrs foreign rulers ruled all over the country with severe punishment if any person do not obey there orders. You take 'Oorangseeb' even at that also , we have not changed or we were practised our own mother tongue.Even after so many steps we are away and we are thinking aboutmaking India a devepoled country what this Hindi, telugu ,tamil ,malayalam, oriya is going to do. Please think and be proud about as being an INDIAN.

Not sure of whether Hindi is being ignored as Mother tongue or not but yeah as a National language it is being ignored.. Actually many few people accepts it as the national language, perhaps our constitution is also not clear on it.
The fact is that not a single state people take pride in speaking it, even in state like bihar local language like bhojpuri, in HP pahadi etc. is preferred.
Most of South indians already take it as foreign language.

It is very important that there should be unique language among the country.Unfortunately country like,India we don't have such system.Of course our system called "Unity in diversity" lead to different people speaking different language and custom also. Many occasions I have felt discrimination between south and north states on the base of language and color. As long as this kind of gap persists, south people will be away from the national language and thereby the conflicts. Everyone wants Hindi to be preserved as a national language and protected.Unfortunately in India political partiality and state based pleasing need to be erased and inculcate the emphasis the importance of Hindi as a national language, desired results can be achieved.

I feel yes it is being ignored.
for testing my answer you need to experience the southern part of India where people are dying for the sake of water I feel soon there will be a big conflict due to the language barriers we are living in united India and we all shall have a common language.
When you visit Kerala you will have to ask people on the street/Govt offices" can you speak in Hindi". and you will hardly find any Hindi written name boards in Karnatak, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Kerala government offices.
Why do we give 2ND preference to our National language and 1st preference to our state language. Come on we are are united we should not create this difference among us.

Not at all. English is definitely given preference, but Hindi is never ignored. Instead we have uniquely blended Hindi and English what we commonly call 'Hinglish'... LOL
