There are a lot of ways animals use to attract mates: each way is specific for a kind of animal. Some of them(cows, dogs goats....) secrete hormones with their leakages, theses hormones have attractive odor and call for mating, thus should happen with the ovulation period.
Other animals (reptiles) change the color of their skin and become attractive.
Others use different kind of exhibition and dances and in general it happens in a big group of possible partners. The best will be cough up with his mate.
Some animals are monogamous and live in couples, some others are polygamous and live in herds or lonely.

SKOOL??? Geeze! There are a great number of methods used by males to attract females. Which one, or combination of methods, will be used depends on the species and can often be dictated by the terrain. Smell can be used, though it is more often that the female will use this method to attract a male. Sound is used particularly for long distance attraction or where dense vegetation or some other obstruction limits visual contact. Deep booming sound can carry over long distances and we are all well aware of the bird's songs used to attract mates' and declare territory. Visual effect is used in a number of ways. Bright colours, fancy feathers, fur and skin and colour change (as in the Cuttlefish). Some dull animals use the feathers and fur of other animals and twigs, flowers and other decorative objects to enhance themselves or their nest, as in the case of the Bower Bird. Dance and strutting are other visual methods. And don't forget the Firefly and other such creatures which use chemicals within their body to emit pulsating or glowing light. Some animals grow antlers to make themselves more attractive to the female and to do battle with competing males. Some male animals will show subordination to the female. This is particularly the case with arachnids as a female spider or scorpion may see a male as a potential meal rather than a mate. Grooming is another means of winning the attention of a mate. Well there's a few to be getting on with, but there are more, such as eye contact, waving and, of course, plying the female with gifts of food.

There are a variety of ways. Mates are attracted by scent (a b1tch in heat), visual display (peacocks strutting), song (cardinals singing), color (certain fish), etc....

Birds and bees use color, an elaborate dance, and even scent....
BUT - ask any female human and she'll swear that dancing isn't courtship...
ask any male human and he might not agree that he puts aftershave on to attract women...
us dogs just follow our nose.
