My daughter's name is Kaitlyn. My husband and I were in a discussion about the short versions of this name with this spelling.

Would it be Kaity, Katie, Katy...?

And would it be Kait or Kate?

There is absolutely no 'correct' way! You chose a specific spelling of Kaitlyn to begin with, even thought there are many variations, so feel free to do the same with the nickname. Besides, some nicknames make no sense at all, like Bob for Robert or Betty for Elizabeth. (Well, those kinda do make sense, a better example is someone who goes by Jack when their name is John - never understood that one...) And even so, people even use nicknames other than the ones I said for the same original names. I think you should just choose whichever short version you happen to like best. Whichever one you choose will be fine!

By your way of spelling, it will be Kait. I have a niece named Katelyn, and her nickname was Kate or Katie.

If you want to call her Katy, choose a spelling of that name. If you want to call her Kate, choose a spelling of that name! You get to choose, isn't being a parent fun!

That's totally up to you. Nicknames don't have to follow the spelling at all. Take Jim, for instance - it's a nickname for James. For that matter, your daughter could decide how she wants to shorten it.
