I had braces when I was a teenager and when I removed them my dentist said not to chew gum because chewing gum will help the teeth go back to their original shape.

Chewing a gum after eating food or snack specially Xilitol Gum helps alot to prevent decays becasue after eating food the Ph of mouth comes down and it helps to provide a good enviroment for bacteries to grow and develope caries and it takes some hours the PH to come to normal range but by chewing a Xilitol Gum this time of coming back to normal range becomes just 30 minutes because of more saliva in mouth and it helps preventing dental caries....about TMJ problems, chewing gum cant lead to TMJ problems unless you have a previous abnromality in TMJ or Premature Contact in your teeth...

Not profusely chewing gum as this can lead to tmj problems..it is good to freshen breath obv the sugarless kind only, and it can help with settling of teeth after braces removed and it can also help you decrease the pain after and adjustment appointment. In cases of small openbites chewing gum helps to a certain degree to close the bite (but only small open bites)

Sugar free gum won't hurt you or your teeth. If it isn't sugar free its like bathing your teeth in sugar for the time you chew it which obviously is bad. But sugar free gum isn't bad..it can actually help get rid of plaque on your teeth by stimulating the saliva that buffers the plaque acid. It can also help get rid of particles from the teeth.. Just make sure its sugar free!

A lot of dentists I work with are always chewing it because it incresaes saliva in your mouth which protect your teeth. It can lead to tension headaches in some people. Additionally, it can increase the acid in your stomach which can cause heartburn.

Yes and no - yes because it helps produce saliva which helps with digestion and no because of the sugar (if there's any) and it can become habit-forming.
