I like tinned sardines but am never too sure what to do with the (sunflower / olive) oil in the tin. Should it go down the drain with plenty of hot water, should it go in my composter, should I eat it with the sardines, should I rub it on my hands, should I fry the fish in it? What?

Em..I don't have a dog (or a cat!), I don't make spag-bol that often (although next time I do I'll use your suggestion..) , I like to recycle as much as possible, the oil is sunflower or olive and is actually not fish oil....now what people?

I have a solution for you.
This time recycle it however you feel comfortable with.
Next time buy sardines in water. They sell them in water. No more problem.

put it down the drain oil does not mix with water ifit is hot or cold so by putting it in with water does not help so just put it down on its own or ifyou are makid a salad with sardines in it drizzle the oil over for great healthy taste andrecyclethe can that it came from too.

If you fry the sardines you can do that in its own oil. If not, let it go down the drain with hot water.

i just throw it in trash. until i got married, now i have to pour it down drain before i toss the can. i guess it was stinkin up the trash can(who knew?)lol or, you can drink up after ya eat the sardines. i do this occasionally, specially the ones with the little green chilies in them or the kind with hot sauce. wife says im being gross but i still do it. it would be gross if you rubbed it on your hands though. cant imagine why you would do that. lol

You should eat it with your sardines, fish oils are really good for the body.

Since you don't have a dog or a cat, do you have a friend who has one. I make salmon patties and when i drain the juice off of them i put it in a bowl and take it to my neighbor who has 3 cats.

Use the oil to use at the start of a spaghetti bolognese, traditionally it would have anchovies in it anyway.

I use a paper towel to soak it up, then discard. If too smelly, I will wrap in plastic, and old bread sack, or put in a use baggie.
