Surveying is a degree program mostly, but I think that some schools offer it as a certificate apprenticeship course too but you will not be allowed to sign documents. Like any trades job, it is important to be taught how to do the job correctly, and be certfied by government because you need to deliver trustworthy results that are the basis of land and property rights boundaries, and be the person who can be called up to swear that you are qualified to do the job and you did it correctly in a court of law should a dispute arise.

List of courses involved in surveying.
