It could be a tic or very mild form of Tourette's Syndrome.

I wouldn't think it's a problem unless you do it at a funeral or something...

smiling has a calming and inviting effect on human being. If you smile at a furious person the fury comes down. Hence don't be alarmed by that we would really want to have such a quality.

Just smile to any of the fairer sexes and you would see how comfortable they are arround you!!!!!

I have this happen to me when I get nervous, anxious, or I'm in a situation where it could turn hostile or people don't agree with me. then i start laughing thigns off.. i noticed this especially when i was in a previous relationship. everytime my boyfriend argued with me i couldn't stop laughing, and he would get very angry. i could not explain the laughing or couldn't even stop myself. i learned I have to be AWARE of the fact that I'm doing it. and focus on my breathing and consciously form sentences to say rather than laugh

Next time when you experience it. Try to focused on your breathing. And please google "focused breathing", this technique will help you a lot.

You don't have to focus on what the people said, but rather on your breathing.

Good luck
