I was in spanish class and it was my teachers b-day. All the students wanted to say happy b-day, so I told them it was feliz cupleanos a ti, and we all said it together as a class, but after that the teacher taught us the "correct" way to say it, "cupleanos feliz". I felt like an idiot... so is "feliz cupleanos a ti" wrong?? or is there more than one way??

"Feliz cumpleaños a ti" is correct.
If you were singing the song "Happy birthday to you...", then that song in Spanish goes "Cumpleaños feliz...". This is probably what your teacher ment, but it's only for the song. It doesn't sound well otherwise.
If you say "Happy birthday" to somebody (not singing), you should just say "Feliz cumpleaños" (not "cumpleaños feliz").

The way I have always heard it was "cumpleanos feliz", in Spanish, remember the descriptions always comes before the "item", so things sound a little reversed.

depends how you say it like for example if you say "tengas un cupleanos feliz" which means "have a happy birthday" or just "feliz cupleanos" which means just "happy birthday" it all depends how and when you say it and you dont need to say " a ti" which mean to you... most (i am being nice {all}) spanish speakers dont say that

well,,, you can say feliz cumpleaños a ti but it is not common, the way your teacher told you is not that common also (at least not in my country (panama)).
We usually say Feliz Cumpleaños..... the thing is that the way you told him was perfectly understandable.

"Feliz Cumpleaños" with to add "a ti" and using "ñ" instead of "n"

For next time the song is:
Cumpleaños felíz
te deseamos a tí
cumpleaños felices
te deseamos a ti.
But normally speaking you don´t say cumpleaños felíz. You say Felíz Cumpleaños.
