It's unusual for a credit check to miss something like that. If they'd been aware that your wife didn't have the earning capacity for a credit limit that big, they'd have told her. If the bank are too lax to pick up on something like that, I'd say it's their fault, but would advise your wife not to go too mad on it, or they'll ask her for the money.

Hello,
(ANS) Yes! this is a standard banking ploy with credit cards, it's a stratergy designed to encourage a person to spend the money.
**Remember banks hate people who DONT have any debits (like me!!) why? because if you dont have any debits they the banks cannot make any money out of you.
*credit cards are designed to ensure that you have a credit history i.e. that you or your wife or partner borrow money.
*Remember with a credit card its NOT your own money you are actually borrowing its the BANKS!!!!
**Remember a debit is only your own money that you or your wife havent yet earned (wealth you are yet to create?).
*Remember a debit to you, is infact a nice monthly income to the bank (the lender).
**Banks are quick in increase the credit limit on a credit card in order to encourage the person to borrow more money. Banks do this very deliberately inorder to make more money from a customer.

When you are married all property is equal.. So If you are the bread winner and she stays home, they already know you work so they can give her the Credit limit.. They know that her other half will pay it back.. Plus banks don't care who they lend money to anymore. As long as they make a profit.

Unfortunately they can do what they like.
Is it any wonder that this country has got lots of people in debt up to their eyeballs.
Credit is too easy to get and a lot of people are irresponsible with it and expect others to bail them out (you know who you are!!)

Her credit report must have been good enough to qualify her... all they really care about is the money they make off the interest they charge...
