How would it help lessen the number of young offenders (teenage rape, etc)

What do you think are the reasons why sex education is hard to handle in schools?

I guess it depends what you are teaching them about sex. You can have a curriculum that includes only contraception, the science details on what happens during sex (blood flow, etc.) and such, and get a fundamentalist teacher who also insinuates to the children that sex is a bad thing.

On the other hand, you might get a teacher that goes the other way and is insinuating to the kids that sex is so much fun and it doesn't matter who does what to whom "everything is okay to do".

I am torn on the issue of whether or not to teach it in schools. On the one hand, I think everyone should learn it at home as well as at church, but on the other hand I know that some kids will get a bad education that way, or not educated at all.

Would it help lessen rape cases? No, rape isn't about the sex, it's about the power.

I dont think sex education would lessen anyones curiosity. Would you expect that talking about your digestive system at school would make you less hungry? I am 36 and we had sex education all thru out junior high and high school. Teens want to experiment w sex because of the hormonal changes in thier bodies and frankly its natural at that age to want to try these things out. 150 years ago most teenager girls were married women w children in this country and that is still the case in many parts of the world.
I also dont think sex education would effect incidents of teenage rape - a safety course for teenage girls and particularly college age girls would do more to curb that, especially w date rape.
I dont know why it is hard to handle - we all know teens have sex, they did when I was in High School, my mother got pregnant in HS so they did then too and I had a great Aunt who would tell you stories about what she was doing in her teens in the 30's that would stun you. She used to always say "there isnt anything new under the sun people just admit to it now".
I think it is nessecary because some parents are afraid to or wont educate thier children and in those cases they learn what they know from thier friends. In cases where parents do talk about it then its just a supplement or a way to continue to the discussion at home.

No. Without a moral compass people go whatever way the wind blows. It would probably not lessen the number of offenders. Sex ed should not be done in a co-educational setting. The teacher should know more about the subject than a rock does. I learned about "fertile mucus" recently because my wife was working as a midwife. How many people know this very basic fact?

The times sure have changed. The ages in which kids lose their virginity gets younger and younger every year. If you ask me, I think that the parents should be more mindful of what their kids are doing, rather than just letting them do anything they want. But, with regards to sex ed, I think (at this day in age) it is a good thing because the kids are going to be doing it anyway. They may as well should be prepared. Its better safe than sorry.

no it will not lessen at all cause human old and young will have sex as a natures call youngters didnt experiment with sex it is urge of our body to have sex in any different stages of our life young ones learning sex at school is a good thing cause they will be aware on many types of sexual deseases like herpes aids
syphilies etc some young offenders will rape somebody cause by many things like it is cool in the gang to rape somebody its like a gangs signature but some youngters rape somebody
to show anger at our society; our government or their family
or to show their own frustration
sex education is hard to handle in school because it is a very very very testy subject cause students comes from different backgrounds;cultures religions ethnics sex subject is taboo to their cultures it must be talk by adults only or by men only
it is hard for the students to share what they learn from school to their family like they cant ask their parents if they have other partners other than their selves or what position they prepare or do they have a desease like this and that
they can not just drag her sister to show her what is clitoris or vulva it is a very private matter or can not talk to his brothers to drop their pants so she can show them the nerve muscles that cause erection

I had no sex education is school. They need to stop being so embarrassed by it and start teaching the kids what is right and wrong about the whole thing.

I don't think it would lessen either. It would educate them on the proper ways to do it though and the consequences, and education on contriceptives would benefit the ever expanding population problem no end.

Note: ignore that first guy, he's like my evil twin or something.

young people don't need anything to "encourage" that curiousity; it'll always be there. Sex education therefore will likely neither increase or decrease such curiousity. The point of it is to educate young people as to the truth of what can happen and prepare them to make informed choices.

I think that in America we need to do a much better job with education about sexuality. Its funny that people here scream that sex ed is going to lead to further promiscuity, more teen pregnancy, more stds, ect, but in Europe, where there is more sexuality education and far less religion, their rates of teen pregnancy and stds are much lower than ours. How do you explain that?

To my openion, my time we had no sex education.
Whatever education you go to learn, you usually want to learn till the end if you like that lesson.

How stupid it is to teach sex at schools. don't you think it would be tempting as you are sitting in the class and someone is talking about it... your blood will flow and you realise how much you want to try this lesson.

YOu can even imagine how you are learning by your teacher...

I think sex should come privately to each person's life. Not someone try to teach. I bet you'd know better than the teacher one day, and you'd be professional to it!

I find it sickening!
