If they are Christians, they have read in the bible to stay away from those who are mediums and witches... and that is probably what they are staying away from .....

I looked at your profile, and judging from your venacular I would say, at best, you might be in High School.

I have a few questions for you:

1. Why do you want to practice witchcraft?
2. What lead you to this path?
3. What do you expect to gain from it?

If your answer to ANY of these questions is "power", forget it. We can't do what you see on TV and in movies.

What denomination have you chosen?
There is nothing wrong with being a solitary if you know what you are doing. Why did you feel compelled to tell your friends at all? There is also no reason to advertise that you are a practitioner, it does not make you cool. You are inviting ridicule and antimosity. And to those who do practice and have for a long time you may come across as being a "fluffy bunny".

Why are your "friends" afraid of you? Do they (or you) understand the wiccan rede? Not just the last 8 words of the poem, the whole thing. I am not Wiccan, but it still applies. I am a Hedge Witch with 40 years experience. I found this path when I was in my teens. I began studying then began actually practicing about 5 years later. You can't just wake up one morning and say "I am a witch". It takes time. It is not just something you can jump into, you could cause harm to yourself or someone (or something) else.
Sorry I am being so harsh, but I believe I must be honest.

Well, witchcraft CAN bring harm -- it's a technique of laying your hands on the underlying energies that connect all things in the universe and causing change through force of will. It can be used to help or to harm, depending on the intention of the witch.

If you're a Wiccan, you could try telling your friends that Wiccans are bound by the Wiccan Rede ("If you harm none, do what you will"), and view witchcraft as a way of connecting with the Divine (since the universe itself is the body of the God/dess and the energies Wiccans work with are usually seen as coming from Them). We value free will and autonomy highly, and therefore do not do things like curse people or cast spells to "bend" the will of someone else.

Good luck convincing them, though. Some people simply can't be taught.

Do they know you do witchcraft? The best way to get them to understand that witchcraft doesn't bring harm (unless the practitioner doesn't care about their karma, but then karma will take care of them pretty quickly) is to be a kind, loving, generous person. I have a very close friend who is a devout Catholic and terrified of witches because she believes that witches are how we're portrayed in fairy tales - Snow White, Hanzel & Gretel, The Bible. She doesn't know I'm a witch. I probably won't tell her for quite a long while, either.

Don't tell before you show. You need to show them first that you're a good person. Hopefully they'll be able to realize on their own that witches aren't wicked based on your example. May I ask how old you are? Your question just sounds young.

Bright blessings!

"Kallan" is right. I had to come back to rewrite this answer after I saw the ignorant responses given by some alleged Christians.

It is hard to convince the people that we are doing something good. If it is were up to Christians, we would be going through the Holy Inquisition Part 2, and they would be burning all the witches and everyone who opposes Christianity. Besides, Christians claim that what we do are illusions.

It would appear that there is still plenty of fear of witches... which is sooooo 17th century...
Anyway, I guess you'll just have to accept the fact that they don't like it. You could also try doing some good witching for them, but that might scare them too.
I don't believe in witchcraft, but if you do, go for it. And hey, if you think of any witching that could benefit me, I am all for you trying it.

*rolls eyes* witchcraft isn't harmful you brainwashed pansies. Any witch knows that any bad thing you do comes back three times worse.

Just try to talk to them, give them FACTS about witchcraft, ask them why they're scared, and try to soothe those fears. However, if it comes down to it, and they can't get over their fears, you may have to choose between them or witchcraft.

If they can't accept you for who you are, then they aren't really your friends.

One need not talk about everything that they do. I don't usually discuss my magical practices with my friends who don't believe in it. We all have the right to believe in whatever we want and I respect their right not to believe in magic. If they ask a question, I will happily answer it if I can but I don't offer info--we have plenty of other things in common. I don't feel the need to try to convince them to see magic the same way that I do. Our beliefs are different but we accept that. We don't require each other to always agree to have a friendship. We simply require respect for one another.

There is nothing you can do. Although it says in the Bible clearly that those with special abilities are the beloved of God, and it also states that any statements that say the opposite such as group xx is hated by God or should be destroyed by God is something written by man and not written by God and should be ignored, the Christians have twisted the words written and blindly ignored the direct instructions given to them and hate those they should be loving and embracing.

Do not bother with people that have such minds - interaction with them will only bring about negative interactions with your magics, and trying to forcibly change their minds against their will is an act of extreme violence - something which will backfire on you. Find some new like minded friends who understand the truth of the blessings you have been dealt.

Right about now, I feel like the only sane person to have looked at this question.

Christians, you do realize that your Bible says "You shall not suffer a witch to live," right?

So are you going to kill the asker?
Quite frankly, I don't see anything remotely harmful about witchcraft.

I don't really see anything beneficial, either.

and now you see why most witches don't post questions like this in this forum.. the posts prior to mine show you the ignorance and lunacy of christians. You will not be able to convince someone who is that steeped in their doctrinal madness anything that is contrary to their bible.
I appreciate why you don't want them to be afraid, but unless they open their minds, it just won't happen.
