No the amygdala is now classified as part of the limbic system - in older textbooks it is grouped with the basal ganglia and it is connected to the caudate - a member of the basal ganglia.

The basal ganglia consists of the:
caudate
putamen
globus pallidus
substantia nigra
subthalamic nucleus
