She asked what she looked like! Why on Earth would you say such a terrible thing? Did she ask you about her breasts? She wanted your approval and support! She was asking about the total package.
You have a lot to learn, but saying things like that are damaging to your relationship and it tell's her that you look at her as an object, not as your girlfriend. So what if it made her breasts look small!
Here is a little fact that you obviously dont realize: If you look at your girlfriend and you dont get absolutely overwhelmed about how pretty she is and an overwhelming feeling of love and adoration for her (Im talking EVERY TIME YOU SEE HER), then you dont love her and you should let her find someone who will. She should be the center of your world. She should not be someone who is convenient to have around for a few reasons.
So to answer your question about honesty: No matter what your girlfriend wears, as a loving and adoring boyfriend, you WILL LIKE everything she wears because it's HER who is wearing it. You wont need to lie because it will be the truth! My wife can make a burlap bag look sexy. But to you, a burlap bag on your girlfriend would make her breasts small. See the subtle difference? You need to find love in your heart for this girl because it obviously isnt there.

That is really an interesting question that seems funny but is a serious one.Women want to hear what ever makes them feel that they are loved and adored exclusively by the man that they love. There is so much competition and so many women willing to screw men to make them self's feel important and wanted, That the woman who does truly love and care for you is constantly looking for reassurance and love by you. Anything negative you say about her looks will affect her in a negative way, always! So, if you cant say anything kind to the one you love don't say anything at all! And if you really respect her feelings NEVER say anything about another woman in front of her about there beauty or body parts!

Maybe you should have said you didnt like it on her not that it made her breasts look small. Honesty is the best policy but sometimes you have to be careful how you deliver it.

there is tact and there is lying, I personally prefer the truth even if it does hurt, maybe you should have been a bit more tactfull by saying simply saying maybe you should try another dress, but attacking her physical apperance was a big no no, especailly breats as it is a sore subject with women! I can assure you women do not like being lied to.

It's probably the way you said it. I ask for constructive advice - I want to know things like my hem is crooked or there's a loose thread. Your girlfriend might have been very disappointed in that she hoped that she looked fabulous in her new expensive dress and your straighforward answer was not what she wanted to hear.
I would have said something like: "Well, you look fabulous and I love that suble neckline! So many women these days shove their boobs in your face, but that dress is classy!"

i think you have been treated un fairly she asked you the question and had a go at you for telling the truth, you don't shoot the messenger just because you don't like the message, the next time she asks you a question like this say "do you want the truth or not"
everyone who asks me a question knows they will get the truth so if i think my wife's dress makes her look like a turd i tell her and if she cant handle it, tough s***. she asked, why should i lie to suit her or anyone else for that matter.

i have a boyfriend like you and yes it can be abit brutal but at the end of the day i have a lot of respect for him and know that he will always tell me the truth, though for the future you could try some diplomacy....makes the truth easier to swallow if it's softer!
so - no as a woman i do not like being lied to x

Ya know that old saying
"If you don't have anything nice to say , then don't say anything at all"
In answer to your question
Do women like being lied to by men ?
I don't like being lied to by ANYONE ( Man or woman)
Sometimes its hard to give honest answers when you know it might hurt, I try to word it very nicely with a positive slant to it.
Hmmmmmmm Good luck with your girlfriend
