Why are gays , nude models and witches + heavey metlers seen as immoral when harmless and nice?

2007-02-20 23:14:42 · 7 answers · asked by Anonymous in Society & Culture Religion & Spirituality

Wolves in sheeps clothing?

Erm if they are the wolves and in heavey metal clubs there is no if not virtually no violence or aggression. (say compared to ra0 even with ghost story lyrics)

Then how do you explain the christian history or human sacrifice ... sorry withc and heritic burning and the islamic human sacrifice of girls... sorry stoning to death for sex outside marriage or family honour.

Plus you only judge by how nice folk are

ekdun...

Why do I need help...

i pointed out facts... these groups statistically are non violent, not nasty to others and in no logcial way immoral, yet get flak and called immoral.

Whilst relgious groups who have killed on mass murder scale with all sorts of evil cruelty are seen as good.

how does that make sense?

Think you need help not me

Quote

It is Immoral, & it is not harmless, how many familes have been broken up due to these things & since Satan is in control of these things, how can it be harmless.

Actually how many families have been broken up by heavey metal kids, kids who are nude models, or where one is gay?

none unless parents are relgious nuts and abusive.

if liberal parents no probs.

Therefore to be immoral and harmful you need to cite genuine mass harm as a group not individual where the above was the deciding factor. ie in the school shootings it was not the interest in music but more years of nasty bullying

My short answer would be that people seem to have a hard-wired compulsion to suspect and fear 'the Other'. Anyone who looks or acts 'different' is held as a suspect, often unfairly.

Maybe it's a relic of an old instinct which protected us thousands of years ago: someone 'other' wasn't part of one's own protective group and thus could be an enemy or a threat.

It's just so easy to blame 'different' people when the real blame lies closer to home. Bigots can quote religion to bash gays, nudity, hard rock etc. but in doing so they just show how blind they are. Remember when Marilyn Manson became the fall-guy for the Columbine shootings? His interviews showed him to be one of the most thoughtful and mild commentators on the incident, but the 'moral majority' didn't want to look past his 'scary' image as their comfy predjudices would have been challenged. Same with any shocking event when a minority gets singled out by the mob. When the Black Death hit Europe, the Jews were persecuted. The witch trials in Europe and the US. the McCarthyite Communist scares.

It's sad that as a race, humans don't seem to have got past the instinct to round on minorities when we feel threatened.

All the best.

What people do for entertainment is none of my business, especially if it doesn't hurt anyone (obviously heavy metallers have that one down cuz, you know, the decibels).

The only reason people have problems with them is because they associate their actions with those who are immoral or have been immoral:

Gay people - the authors of the Bible seemed to be rather homophobic
Nude models - nudity is classed as immoral by some even though they'd have no problem wearing a bikini or shorts which is also pretty much condemned by most religions
Witches - Leviticus makes claims that all witches must be stoned, the obvious fear is that they "may lead people astray" to be fair I'd have more fear of a preacher doing that
Heavy metal - lyrics and image associated with paganism, Satan, general immorality - in reality there's no harm that comes from it with the exception of, ya know, difficulty hearing or a sprained neck.

It's mostly over-reaction to any of these.

Because you just answer your own question, It is Immoral, & it is not harmless, how many familes have been broken up due to these things & since Satan is in control of these things, how can it be harmless.

Who says they are seen as immoral ? You live in lala land dude. Just because you are a gay, nude modelling, heavy metaler who tries a little withccraft for kicks it doesn't mean we think you are immoral - just looking for attention.
