Prozac takes about 2-3 weeks if not more to completely get out of your system! The side effects of taking Prozac usually last a couple of days, sometimes more. I have been on this drug since I was 17 and I'm now 28. I take it off and on as the effects last a while. Hope this helps.

I've been on fluoxetine for a year and a half now. i only had mild side effects like nausea and headaches for the first couple of months but the treatment has been a huge help for me. If you really have a problem and have been prescribed the medicine it's best to continue with the treatment. Once you go through the first 1-2 months things will get so much better for you. You cannot stop taking antidepressants like that, the withdrawal symptoms are not nice at all and you might get suicidal. You should follow your doctor's instructions. However, if you insist to just stop after just one, it's ok, it's not unsafe.

Prozac (Fluoxetine Hydrochloride) has a half life of approximately 2 days. In other words, it takes 2 days for the drug to work its way out of your system.

Well it has a few life and a half life, so why not just ask your doctor, about the full life and half life of one pill, they can answer your question on that, i find that all of my 80 mg's i take in the morning so it does not keep me awake all night, but at one time it put me to sleep, so i took it in the evening instead of in the morning.

you need to take your prozac at the same time each day to keep your blood levels at an even keel for best effects. many people take it at bedtime because it makes them sleepy. it doesn't matter when you take it as long as you take it at the same time every day. you can take it with or without food.
