someone answered another question of mine and seemed to think that just because we don't follow the(or "a") bible, we're immoral. granted some pagans have a set of rules that they follow; every one of us, pagan or atheist, have the same moral code as everyone else...otherwise we'd all be in jail. thoughts?

It is the belief that only morals come from the bible - which comes from God. Since Pagans and Atheists and other minorites do not believe in the bible we must have something lacking in our morality.

The sad fact is that there are far more people in jail who claim to be Christians then who claim any other religion.

There was a 30 Days episode where a hardcore atheist spends a month with hardcore Christians. The Christians had problems understanding how she could have morals, know right and wrong etc without using the bible. It took a while to see that she was a good person and did good things, even though she had no belive in God or in the afterlife.

the 1st isn't an phantasm, no. as a replace of asking what "makes a ethical atheist?", you will have only asked "what makes a ethical individual?" i'm rather advantageous the common maintains to be the saim inspite of what somebody claims to have faith or no longer have faith. perception isn't a ethical subject. besides, i think of that doing those issues with the objective of benefitting different is what makes a ethical individual. Doing those issues which injury others for the objective of basically benefitting one's self is what makes an immoral individual. it is likewise well worth affirming that persons are colorings of gray.... there is not any such subject as an solely ethical or an solely immoral individual, only various tiers of the two.

Of course we have morals. Morals are the structures that allow us to live together. We are social creatures. Morals have evolved to support society. As human beings develop our morals evolve, too. Just look at the difference between our society now and 200 years ago. Now we look at it as immoral to keep slaves, to abuse women and children, to be purposely cruel to animals and to practice racial bigotry. (At least in theory) This is a huge change. I think most people would agree that these are positive changes. There were atheists involved in working for all of these issues. I am sure pagans were involved, too.

It seems that most over-the-top religious types seem to think that morals come from fear of punishment rather than the possibility of a built in sense of altruism and compassion.

As the Rabbi Herschel Gluck summed up in "Root of all Evil?" (paraphrasing), actions such as pedophilia are considered immoral (a slight understatement) because they believe that they will be judged for it by God. (not simply because the child will suffer or anything like that, of course nothing like that)

every human being has morals, everyone is moral...the problem is that what is moral for someone it may be immoral for someone else...for example Hitler, Stalin, they all thought that they`re doing a moral thing by doing what they`ve done..morals are relative but every human being has them no matter their religion(or lack of).

hmm its interesting u labelled believers of supernatural forces with believers of no-such-thing-as-higher-forces-above. that said, everyone has done something wrong, and everyone has condemned someone else before, sometimes its not so much the belief but the person.

ps. u're labelling all who blame u, as christians(clearly so,by your mention of the accusers sticking to the bible).

now u're sterotyping, and it wouldnt be so nice if i said that all love to sterotype others, isnt it? :)

edit: wow guess what u just replied me with that additional details. self-destroying prophecy on your side, isnt it? :P
