It would help to give the exact file name you were trying to open.

The error message is for an unsupported or corrupted file. OR for the sound card not being properly set up.

Since you indicate that its just the one file giving an error... its either a bad file or there's a reason for it not being supported.

Maybe Windows Media Player doesn't support the file format, try playing the file using VLC Media Player: http://videolan.org/vlc

if u can play sound. but one specific file does not play. the file may have been moved.

if u cannot not play any sound in any application. check you audio setting. or reinstall the soundcard driver

or you may be selecting a file that you have not selected WM Player to play. check the extenstion of the file( right click on it. and goto properties) then check options ---> file types inside of WM Player
