how will a net protect your robins? i think it would either scare the robins away altogether or the magpies would just use the same entrence point as the robins and get the young anyway they are part of the corvid family and very clever birds we had this problem last spring when we had a brood of greenfinches taken from our garden hedge they only ate one and left the other 3 on the ground dead .so for the next few days i left food out for them and lay in wait early one morning and nailed them both with an air rifle that solved the problem and the greenfinches went on to raise a second brood in peace. they are vermin and numbers have soured in the uk and this has had an impact on songbird numbers

Go to your local charity shop, and buy old net curtains, cheap and effective!

ask your local supermarket for their empty sacks from the fruit and veg section, onion bags are very good, they won't charge you for them, and they work a treat, hope this helpsxx
