how can all the guys i end up caring about tell me i am too good of a friend for them to date me? they all say they would never risk losing me as a friend by dating me....but if they all think im such a good person why don't any of them ever want to be with me? should i take this as a compliment or an excuse?

Take it as a compliment.
You're right they should want you right - if you're such a good mate.
Maybe they see you as one of the lads, always someone they can turn to.
You'll find someone, and if you want one of them then go for it and tell them. xx

Maybe they are insecure and need you to make the first move. Secretly like on Friends, the couples do want to be with the other, but they continue to play along like they are not interested until someone makes a move. Maybe it is the same with you and in some ways you give signals that they are just friends when in fact you want it to be more than that. Fearing losing out on having you around they tell you that but it can also work against them too because if they do go out with you and you have a fight or disagreement and break up then what? Can they as they point out now, come back and have you as a friend? It will never be the same as it was before, unless you just date with no sex involved. Once however that golden threshold of sex is crossed over there is really no way of returning to what you once had as platonic friends. Now remembering all of that, pick the guy you think is the one for you and go for it or just keep shopping around and sooner or later it will happen, and when it does you will know. Is it move, or no move?

Perhaps they already have girlfriends whom they like better, and they still want you around. So you become a friend, in line number two or three.
