I would like to go for a tattoo (it will be my first). I am thinking of going for it on my back - just above my jeans. Is it really painful to have a tattoo done, especially on this part of your body.

No, it does not hurt there. It will hurt more if you're bonier but other than that it hurts less that a piercing. The only part it hurt was when they were kinda near the area of my butt-crack, haha!
It will also hurt if you have a low tolerance for pain. But I think that you could handle it.
Don't twitch or anything because it'll mess up. But everyone says they're tramp stamps but I say f*ck them because they're really cute.
They're only tramp stamps if the person with the tattoo is a tramp.
Good luck! =)

Getting a tattoo done is uncomfortable but not desperately painful. It's most often described as a hot, scratching sensation - a bit like a cat scratch.

The most uncomfortable places to have a tattoo done are generally places that are right on the bone, or places where the skin is very tender. I think in the grand scheme of things your back shouldn't be too bad - and in any case I think you should make your decision based on a clear choice about where you want the tattoo, which will be for life, rather than the discomfort, which will be very temporary.

Good luck, and enjoy your tattooing experience!

It's impossible to describe the pain or discomfort of getting a tattoo, its different for everyone. Some people will tell you it was the most painful thing they've ever been through, and others will tell you they fell asleep in the middle of getting it. It all varies for different people. Keep in mind that getting a tattoo= being stabbed repeatedly thousands of times, so yes, youre going to feel it, how you register that pain however, you wont actually know til youre getting it. Thousands and thousands of all different types of people are tattooed though, which clearly tells you that while its uncomfortable, to say the least, and sometimes down right painful....its not unbearable. And a few hours of pain or discomfort = a life time of art. Worth it, I think

Back isn't bad as long as it doesn't go on your spine. Note that if you're Canadian, Nurses will not give epidurals to women with tattoos that are on their spine. If you're looking for a painless place to get it, I got my first one on my shoulder blade and it wasn't bad at all. Keep in mind that everyone has different pain tolerances so what might be bad for one person may not seem that painful for another. Just make sure to take good care of it. Don't use any scented lotions when it gets dry at first(it ill sting if you do), avoid swimming for a while because it causes fading, and for your own sake don't scratch it.

tattoo pain is different for everybody and everybody will tell you something different. in my opinion all tattoos hurt. i have had quite a bit of work done, especially on my back. the larger the tattoo the more it hurts because it takes longer. but the experience level of your tattoo artist also factors in as well as how well you tolerate pain. i'm sure you'll be fine, tons of girls have tattoos where you are talking about getting one, including myself.

I have 2 and my best friend got one on the exact same spot you want to have yours. Of course it's painful, they pin your skin let's not forget, but if you really want one you won't worry about the pain. i did it at a time i had no one telling how it feels or how it is after! Just please make sure you really really want it and if you just decided it wait for a month to see if you feel the same way about it then. it's something you will carry on you fr he rest of your life. I'm not happy with both my tattoos and there's nothing i can do. i love the one, but i wish i hadn't done the other. Take care and be yourself.

Sounds like everyone is on the same page with this question...EVEryones pain tolerance level is different. I have very low tolerance and I have 7 tattoos. I have one of each upper arm, one on the back of my shoulder, which was my first, two on my chest, one on my leg right below the knee and one on my lower back. OUT of all of them, the one on my back hurt the worst. But, you have to sit still and let the artists do their job...if they are really good artists who take pride in their work, it will take them a bit..depending upon the size and it'll look great. I don't regret mine one bit!

i've got one behind my neck, it's pretty painful but not that overwhelming that you'll faint or something..
furthermore you'll be doing on your back, which hopefully is not that bony, it should be alright, i guess you'll be able to take it...

good luck and remember to choose a design you really love, cause you'll be sticking with it ALL your life..

remember to ENJOY the process instead of ENDURE the process...

Good luck and have fun!
