I have just started taking a generic form of Prozac. However, I have blurred vision and find it difficult to concentrate. Is this to be expected throughout the whole time I am on this medicine or is this a side effect that will eventually go away?

The side effects of Fluoxetine (Prozac) are not permanent. They are caused by the increased levels of the neurotransmitter noradrenaline as well as seratonin in your body. Fluoxetine blocks re-uptake of seratonin to prolong it's effects, which is what causes the lifting of mood, but also has a similar effect of noradrenaline, one of the body's main neurotransmitters, which has a very similar structure to seratonin. This is what causes your blurred vision and possibly dizziness too, as well as the difficulty in concentrating. Once you stop taking the drug and it is completely eliminated from your body (about a month or two) your noradrenaline and seratonin levels will return to normal and your side effect will be relieved.

The side effects are different for everyone, some people experience little or no side effects. If the vision problem is doable for now give the medication a chance to start working, but if it gets worse or persists past 2 to 3 wks, I would call the Dr & perhaps they can either change the dosage or the medication entirely.

before everything, notwithstanding you have been taking a rather small dose, this is totally complicated to foretell how a given ssri will influence a given individual. i'm satisfied which you discontinued in view of the destructive outcomes. for the reason that prozac has a rather long a million/2 existence, i could anticipate that the area outcomes could decline in below each week (if this is the prozac inflicting this reaction). interior the period in-between, this is serious which you notice your psychiatrist to alter your therapy recurring in mild of your findings. I wish you nicely.
