Or is the damage permanent?

Well, the infection came about after having my ear syringed for wax. The ringing was around back then, which is a symptom as I understand, but it's got worse since the infection took hold.

My friend, - you have my DEEPEST sympathy! I have, myself, had this AWFUL condition, for MANY years! It is NOT easy, to live with! It MAY fade, in time, - providing your doctor gave you the correct antibiotics, - and, knew, the EXACT nature of the ear infection, before prescribing them. Give the medicine TIME, to work, - two weeks, could be the "GO", I think, - but, be AWARE, that the tinnitus COULD be a PERMANENT thing, from now, on! I am SO SORRY, to be the bearer of such BAD NEWS, - but, there, you have it, I'm afraid! Please, be aware, ALSO, that, - if you need any HELP, - you have, only, to refer BACK, to this forum, - send me a message, and i will get in touch, with you!

that is not a normal symptom of a middle or outer ear infection. I would recommend that you get a hearing test IMMEDIATELY - you may need to start steroids....time is a factor.

It is possible that you already had tinnitus before the ear infection and only notice it now because your ear is plugged, but I would not risk the hearing in that ear on that premise. If this has been going on for longer than a week, there may be nothing that can be done.

Best of luck!

If you have tinnitus....you have my deepest sympathy,it may fade or it may not. The noises experienced are from buzzing--fizzing--hissing. It is caused by iritation of the inner ear. If you live in the US and your doctor or specialist has given you the anti-biotics and the noises has lessened...it may cure and the same if you live in the UK. If your ear does not improve then those pills were just a sedative to calm you. In my opinion there is no real cure for tinnitus. Once again you have my deepest sympathy.

Not sure with an ear infection but, I do know that it is associated with hearing loss. I have it myself. If after your ear infection goes away you might want to see if you lost some hearing.
