They live in a totalitarian state ruled by a dictator. What else is there to say?

"Cuban authorities continue to treat as criminal offenses nonviolent activities such as meeting to discuss the economy or elections, writing letters to the government, reporting on political or economic developments, speaking to international reporters, or advocating the release of political prisoners."

"In recent years, rather than modify its laws to conform to international human rights standards, Cuba has approved legislation further restricting fundamental rights."

I wonder why the people who gave the the 'thumbs down' don't go and live there themselves?

Just ask some basic questions about a place and you get reality. Can people freely leave and come in the country? Cane you use the Internet freely without censorship? Can you speak openly against govt. policy and programs? Can you talk with people from other lands without fear? The answers are NO-NO-NO. Americans can visit Cuba at any time .. the Canadian Embassy helps us if there is a problem. You will be "escorted on tours" and "followed about" to keep you away from locals who are not party people.

Very well, actually... and always have been relatively well. Much of what the US hears about is propaganda, as the other poster mentioned. If the CIA hadn't become involved, their history and much of our own would have been different.

Go down to the background section and it gives a pretty good history, and explains why the CMC happened in the first place, something most Americans are totally in the dark about. (Like thinking Castro had missiles aimed at us. lol)

I'm guessing you're talking about the treatment of Detainees at Guantanamo Bay?

If that's in fact what you're talking about, they are treated a lot better than what the media keeps making it out to be. US troops have been speaking out against the way Gitmo is presented in the media, and you can read one such article here -
