The choice is up to you. The Catholic Church advocates many practices of avoidance and fasting on certain days of the year. It is actually a carry over of the Church's ancient days' adventurism. But honestly I tell you this. . Do good acts to all men, respect your parents and elders, do not cheat, pray and have solid faith in your God. These acts will get you through hell even if you eat eggs or consume meat on Ash Wednesday. God Bless you.

Actually no, theoretically you can't if you wish to observe Lent according to the letter. That's where the tradition for pancakes on Shrove Tuesday comes, using up the eggs and fat. Sorry!

I'm gutted, I normally eat 3 a day 5 days a week lol!

I think nowadays it is much more relaxed and people eat meat anyway.

Today is traditionally snack at lunch and small dinner, fish I've been told.

"To the early Christians the egg seemed a fitting symbol of Christ's resurrection from the tomb. That was why the eating of eggs was forbidden in Lent, while on Easter Day they were blessed in the churches, exchanged as gifts and eaten joyfully."

According to western traditions observed in Lent, the prohibition is for not eating flesh on Fridays, and Ash Wednesday. You may eat flesh during other days of Lent. Flesh is commonly called, "meat". This does not include dairy products such as milk and eggs. Neither does flesh consists of fish and seafood. So you really can eat quite a bit of protein during Lent.

Shrove Tuesday is when you finish up all the "rich" foods that will not last untill easter. Eggs were and are produced all year round, so as they are renewed it is ok to eat them. Ash Wed is a day of fasting, so should only eat a small lunch and simple food for tea, and always avoid meat. eg. 1 egg samdwich for lunch and fishfingers and chips for tea. traditionaly the money saved from mealtimes should be given to CAFOD or similar charity.

nothing is forbidden my dear you can eat anything you want today. we need to remember that fasting is an act of sacrificing the things that is in excess to what we need and giving those to orphans.
