Please see my recent answer to a person who asked about jaw pain and lip numbness- i answered this only afew days ago so it will be near the front of my answers. My sister did this and was medically treated as it can cause tempural mandibular joiny problems. Thank you. I will be right back as will locate the exact content of question answered for you. : 'It is left jaw cant close and lip is numb'. It is the 16th answer down from all of my answers... so it is close to the most recent questions I have answered / responded to.

I also think you should call the dentist and let him know. One of the fillings may be 'high' causing him to grind the teeth down as it may be uncomfortable for him. If the filling is too high, the grinding could also cause him to fracture the tooth. This problem would be the dentists responsibility as the extra filling material is creating the problem. This problem can cause additional medical problems. Since he just began after the fillings- this actually may be the cause and the filling(s) may need corrective repair. The dentist should not charge you for any visit or work done if indeed the filling is high.

Lots of people do this. It is not, by itself, a sign of emotional distress, as some people think, especially in kids. Some people talk in their sleep, some walk, some kick. It's just one of those things.

Grinding will wear down the enamel on his teeth, though. (It can cause headaches and jaw pain, too.) A dentist will be able to fit him for a guard he can wear at night to prevent this.

Yes, this can hurt him, teeth, jaws and ears. He could also be clenching his teeth. Get him to a dentist asap for advice, and sometimes a person needs to wear an appliance at night. Could also lead to TMJ.

my son is five going on six and he does the same thing in his sleep. If I am not mistaking you can get teeth guards from your dentist. Or ask a pharmacist if they sell something over the counter

I do and my daughter used to. It began after stressful time periods. But, I am no doctor and there could be any number of reasons. My advice would be to see a dentist right off. Good luck. I'm sure it can be corrected, and it's good that you caught it so soon. Good luck!
