Because you just don't get how to handle girls and may be you are not selective in using words when you propose. May be you are a little abusive....
You have to be smart when you propose. You don't have to speak it out in the middle of some thing. You have to study her mood, the enviroment and you should have time to know her better and know whether she is interested or not.
Generally take a considerable and enough time before running to proposing.
