A friend of mine recently moved from London to Newcastle and he loves it. On the other hand, I moved from London to Yorkshire and the people were extremely hostile to me as soon as they heard my accent. There is a very small minded mentality up there. I was always being asked (or told) "you're not from round here, are you?" Talk about stating the obvious.
The whole thing about Londoners not accepting northerners is something of a myth. Londoners are just rude to everybody in general.

my brother moved to Sheffield from Southampton about 15 years ago and they are very accepting, very very friendly people. I would definately say northerners are more friendly than people down south! when I've been up to see him I thought it was great, you can strike up a conversation with virtually anyone, just standing in a queue at the supermarket and people will talk to you - but down here people turn their noses up at you. I would say go, and don't worry, you'll be surprised at the difference!

It's bit like Marmite really. They either love you or hate you...(Just kidding) You have nothing to worry about. You can't beat the Geordies. They're the nicest people you'll ever meet. Hope you have fun anyway. Good Luck my friend.

In my experience no, a group of girls tried to intimidate me at a party I went to in Sheffield once, hadnt even spoken to me just didnt like having a London girl there.
But not all people are like that.
