I learned this from a personal trainer. First, you decide an amount of lean muscle that you would like to have on your body. IThen, your food intake will reflect upon this value. For example, if you would like to have 150 pounds of lean muscle on your frame, you should intake 150 grams of protein to maintain that amount of muscle and not lose any. Then you will intake 150 grams of low glycemic carbs to just feed the muscle and not add any extra to turn to fat. These amounts will be separated into 5 or 6 meals a day evenly. This works best while doing cardio every day and lifting weights at least 3 times a week. If you only drink water and black coffee as beverages, it makes things easier on the carb counts. I used protein shakes or bars as two of the meals and ate a lot of raw veggies with chicken or fish. This worked amazingly for me.

Good luck!!
