its gross. yesterday a girl in front of me was coughing her guts up, sharing her germs with anyone in a 10 yard radius. how rude. could this be the reason why "superbugs" are so prevelant? lack of basic manners?

I hate that as well i have two children and they always put there hand over there mouth, i think if someone was coughing over me i would have to say something. I have also noticed that when my 9 year daughter say excuse me that some adults look at her funny like she has said something wrong, what is going on ?

This is the worst in college. At any given time, about 25% of the class has some chronic (smokers) or acute (flu, cold) illness affecting the respiratory system. These people just hack all over the place without even making a modest attempt to cover it up! I'm one of those people that don't even cough or sneeze in class if I can help it, so this really pisses me off. If I'm making the effort not to share last night's buildup, so should they.

People just don't seem to care anymore. They're are not conscious of others around them and probably were never taught proper manners either. Short of saying "Hey... excuse you"! Or, asking them to cover their mouths and noses, which will probably annoy or offend someone, just move away from the offender and go about your day. Wash up when you have a chance and watch what you touch (as an additional precaution).

Not everyone does that. I presently have a Bad case of Bronchitis and I do cover my Mouth when I cough. Yes it is bad manners and Rude to cough all over people.

As a nation we have lost the respect we used to have for others and it boils down to a basic lack of manners!

People can be rude, inconsiderate, unthinking, just don't care. I was taught to always cover my mouth, etc. when I yawn, cough, sneeze, and say excuse me when I burp, I even do it when alone. My children were taught the same but one of them is not as diligent as the others.

I agree with you, that and spitting is disgusting.
I even put my hand, with or without a hanky depending on whether it's a cough, sneeze or yawn, to my mouth when I'm home alone - how well bred is that.

I do, and so do my 2 year old daughter and 4 year old son - if they can do it, why can't adults? It's simply a lack of manners and social awareness. Disgusting.

Those who act in the way you have described, are rude and have no manners, and probably couldn't tell you the meaning of consideration.
