No, you can't.

There was a fad a couple of years ago (in Britain, at any rate) for places that purported to offer 'temporary' tattoos that would fade after 3/5 years. Leaving aside for a moment the fact that a 'fading' tattoo would look awful for ages, the method they were using wouldn't have achieved what they wanted, and was potentially dangerous.

What they claimed to be doing was tattooing into surface layers of the skin, which would eventually be shed and replaced with new skin. This certainly does happen to the skin, but over a much shorter period than several years, so in essence, a tattoo that lasted 3/5 years is going to last forever - is basically just a tattoo. However, the places doing this were tanning studios/hairdressers and the like, and were therefore not likely to be particularly good tattoo artists, either.

Worse still, it was discovered that some parts of the equipment being used couldn't be properly sterilised - so although they were using sterile needles, there was a risk of contamination from the tattoo 'gun'.

I believe there are also some places that claim to be able to use a 'temporary' ink that will gradually break down - but again, the results are inconsistent with the result that even if it works properly it just looks rubbish over a period of years. And if you're nervous of the idea of having a tattoo, the absolute last thing you want is something that looks pants over a long period.

I'd suggest, if you're interested in some sort of temporary body art, that you look into airbrushing, or henna, and experiment with these for a while. If, after due thought, you decide you want a tattoo, then go for it! But I personally would run a mile from anyone who claimed to be able to tattoo me 'temporarily'.

Hope this helps!

They are Henna. You can design or get a traditional design. They are cheaper by far. The most I've heard of the costing is around $20 or so. But definately not more than $50. Plus if you don't like the design after it's done at least you aren't stuck for life. Only another month or so. Call local tattoo shops and ask about Henna options or look in your yellow pages for Henna Tattoos.

Not unless you want to have it removed in 2 years.
But you could get a henna tattoo they last for some time and just keep getting it when it wears away and then stop in two years

you can get tattoos that are temp, they last up to 5 years and supposably fade, i have seen 3 different ones and they look good for approx 18months - 2 years but after that they start to fade slowly and look terrible, until they are gone which is potentially another 3 years, longer than it looked good, if you are not wanting something permenant then a tattoo is not for you, and a temp one is not really a suitable comprimise,, think about it for a while longer, you have done the right thing so far by not just jumping in, wait and see how you feel in a few months time, i thought long and hard before i had any of mine done, then i never looked back but i'm glad i didnt go with my first thoughts, good luck
