Hell is the common grave of mankind

The scriptures clearly show that the dead can be delivered from Hell - Revelation 20:13, 14 (Hell is not the same as the lake of fire because it shows that it will be cast into the lake of fire)

The Bible also shows what the penalty for death is -
Romans 6:23

And that a person is not subject to further punishment for his sins -
Romans 6:7

Eternal torment is not compatible with God's personality
Jeremiah 7:31
This scripture shows that the terrible things they were doing never even came up into his heart - why should he do such a thing on a far larger scale?

1 John 4:8 - God is love

The scriptures also show that good people go to hell
Job ( a good man -Job 1:8) prayed to go there
Acts 2:25-27 - Jesus actually went to hell (hades) for a short time.
The words sheol/hades obviously mean the common grave of mankind.

The origins of the teachings of hellfire have pagan roots in Babylonian & Assyrian beliefs.
These beliefs (along with many others that are not scriptural) are God-dishonouring & originate with Satan, God's chief opposer. To teach these beliefs is false & ungodly.
John 8:44

Hell is a place of inward emptiness and separation from God.

Hell is a place where, like heaven, you will have immortal bodies that do not feel pain or burning, and time will be infinite and in an infinite state there is no reference to time

Hell is both described as a place of darkness and fire, either of which could be metaphorical. See, if hell was a fiery realm, then it would be bright. Either the fire is symbolic of condemnation, or the darkness is symbolic of emptiness or separation from God.

In the same way, Jesus is described in Revelation as eyes of fire (condemnation) and a sword coming out of his mouth (naturally this is symbolic since he wont be gagging on a sword. This symbolizes that at his very word people will be condemned)

So yeah, in two words I would describe hell as a place of emptiness and condemnation.

I don't know. You do not see a lot of people saying that here. Doesn't sound fun though... My hell is being an insomniac, in a dim room, while everyone is asleep, typing out answers to a whole bunch of questions. It would also include having a wet butt and cold feet with nothing to eat.

That's easy. In Hebrew language many things are personified. For example, wisdom is personified in the female sense in the OT. It's the Hebrew way of speaking and they are perfectly comfortable with it.

A figment of the imagination used to terrify people into joining a religion.

Atheism. You know it makes sense.
