Hi, when my children were smaller they too did not like kidney beans in chilli, so i used baked beans instead, (i would drain the juice out of them first), which they enjoyed and would eat all of their chilli up. Now they are older they will eat the kidney beans.

Black beans, pinto beans, red beans, navy beans, northern beans. I would go with black or pinto beans...so good! I try to keep about a dozen cans of black beans on hand at a time. I eat them about 3 times a week, and I do alllll kinds of things with them. Chili is a new idea, thanks!

Someone mentioned the mild taste, I don't think it is usually the taste of beans that people don't like, I think it might be the texture, kind of mushy in your mouth. I love it for beans, but I don't like avocados, mealy apples or peaches, etc. so I understand their disdain. You can omit of course, but this isn't as healthy due to beans having such high fiber.

You can maybe disguise the problem of any beans by whipping up in a blender first. Then they are virtually undetected by the kids, but you have the flavor, and the chili will be thicker too. Refried beans would do the same thing but they contain lard.

Disguise them - mash them up and put them in secretly. They are a useful source of protein,so don't give in to them. You could also consider refried beans as a side dish with chilli (they are just kidney beans mashed up) to make sure they are getting their nutrition. Good luck.

Skip the beans altogether and serve the chili over steamed brown rice or in/over a baked potato.

I make these sometimes for variety even though I like kidney beans in my chili. I usually use half dark red kidneys and half light red kidneys just for visual interest.

Leave them out. My son has never eaten beans and I don't understand it. It's not as though they have a strong taste.

You could use any sort of beans. Try flageolot or cannellini. Or mash their beans up when they aren't looking. Works a treat!

hi yeah my kids are the same so i tried it by adding baked beans now they love it.i asked about the other beans and they say there to hot and taste funny.and i know baked beans will be a great hit with them ,but i do not recomend unusal beans or unusal coloured beans you have to remember your trying to get your children to eat something and if they see things that are weird and unusal they will not eat it.baked beans they know and they taste great.that is your best winner to go for.

Pink or Pinto beans work just as well. Also, I make a thick lentil soup and flavor it the same as chili. That's good too.

You could add some baked beans if they like them - otherwise leave the beans out.
