Parents (or adults) or are they predominantly teenagers? Sometimes it's obvious (as long as they are truthful answers of course) who is a homeschooling parent when they speak about their experiences with their kids or teenager but I am not sure. I have just turned 16 and I'm in Year (grade) 11 in Australia. I am just wondering what the age group is here. Please tell me whether your a parent (and/or an adult), teenager (age if possible) , kid or child (under 13)or past homeschooler (you have now finished homeschooling). Thankyou. Honest answers only please.

I am a Year(grade) 11 homeschooler in Australia. I went to a private school from kindergarten to the end of year 4, then moved to the country with my family, went to a private school from years 8 to 10 when I suddenly became very sick with a couple of awful viruses which left me tired, weak, aching and generally unwell which is when I started homeschooling. I didn't think much of the private school I attended for the beginning of highschool (I wasn't anti-social, an out-cast or bullied or teased) I just felt everyone was too materialistic and overall shallow in my year (my age group). By the way, I have always got excellent marks no matter where I've been at school (straight A+ student).

1st answerer, I don't think you could say that statement confidently. I have predominantly been schooled at a private school and also a public school in the country and now I'm being homeschooled for year 11 and probably year 12 and I'm completely normal and am fine in society. How can you assume that parents such as mine, wrap me in cotton wool? They don't do that even though I am a responsible teen who steers clear of regular "drunks" my age. I am a hard worker (with my studies) because I want to have choices when I finish school such as the career path I would like to go down (medicine by the way).

I'm a homeschool parent and I have a 9th grader and a second grader. I've also served as an administrative director of our local homeschool group for two years, ran a science experiment and art class for elementary aged students, taught jr. high and sr. high level literature classes for our teaching co-op, and held various informational meetings for homeschool parents.
I hang out here in my "free time" because I see so much prejudice and misunderstanding and downright hostility directed at homeschoolers in this country. As the number of homeschoolers increases, so does the gap between the supporters and the haters.
Sad, really, but that's why I'm on here "dishing out free advice" LOL so hopefully someone somewhere will get it that we are no different from anyone else. We love our kids, we love learning and we love our freedom.

I think it is mostly because they know that most of the people who come to this section are homeschoolers or homeschool supporters and they want to see what kind of reaction their comments will get. Then there are some people who have genuine concerns about homeschooling based on their personal thoughts and experiences, which would be fine to share if their opinions were actually asked for.

Hi I'm a 14 year old from Vancouver, BC Canada and i am in grade 8. I truly believe that homeschooling or schooling from an online source or by correspondence DOES NOT hinder ones ability to integrate into a social environment i was in a regular school up until partway through this year when i decided that it would be in my best interests to be schooled through correspondence I still interact with friends and do all the things a normal teenager would do and if i had been home schooled from the beginning would have been no different. To the first answerer, it is my opinion that your opinion is without truth and are just attempting to infer that home schooled children or adults cannot function in "proper" society *rolls eyes* we can and do. We have contacts outside our homes and do the things that your two teenagers would normally do. We just have better teachers.

I'm a parent. I have 3 step-kids who go to public schools. I also have a 12 yr old in private school, which is a bit of an issue, and a 4 yr old and 5 yr old who are home schooled, and a 1 1/2 yr old who is next in home school line. My 12 yr old is going to be home schooled next year, as well.

I don't know about most of them, but I homeschooled. I would have graduated at the end of this school year if I had stayed in public school, but I graduated June 2006.

I am a parent of two teenagers who both go to school rather than being homeschooled.

I think there are advantages and disadvantages of being homeschooled. Although academically there may be advantages I don't think that homeschooled kids intergrate into society as well as schooled kinds.
