Yep, all good answers I think.

The thing is to give them a positive experience in the environment. If you speak to environmentalists today then most of them should remember a time in their lives when they made a special connection with our planet. For me, it was when I was 8 or 9 and there were alot of reports on TV about oil spills and rainforests. My science teacher also spoke about conservation at the time - I think those images on TV really made me think and since that time I have dedicated my life to conservation. Of course, there are different degrees to your 'dedication' - I am not suggesting that everyone should become a conservationist. But, I am just suggesting that by taking your children outside - to beautiful places - then they will learn to connect happy times with the environment. This should begin their development of caring and protection. It's great that you are thinking of it already. There are lots of good resources on the internet for Environmental Education work and places like the Schumacher School could be a good source of information for you.

Find a local nature reserve there's always special days for kids where they can learn about conservation and take part - that's the most important thing to keep them interested. Where do you live ?

Honestly the best way would just be to get them outside and involved. A great way to allow them to have fun and gain knowledge of the environment is to take them to State or National Parks. These parks have tons of educational information and a usually all have current conservation projects.

When I was younger my mum and dad used to take me and my brother out to the countryside and go on nature walks. We used to collect leaves and acorns and other things, and if we saw animals we'd be told all about them, and then draw them when we got home. It was great. children love stuff like that.

i think hands on stuff that will excite them. Sitting and listening really bores them and they get adgitated and dont listen. If it has to be in the classroom lots of activities with a bit of talking. They will take in so much more. Also relate things to them and the world around them and they will understand better

Take them to the park? Go fishing in shallow waters for tadpoles? Make up a question sheet with pictures of animals and trees and get them to name things within their surroundings. Obviously you gonna have to give them a prize at the end of the day.

Show him that his bed is made of wood therefoe he need to protect the forest.

Show him that clear water is beautiful and tasty, then add some dirt (ashes) in it and show him that dirty water is ugly and disgusting therefore he need to keep rivers and seas around him clean otherwise he will be forced to drink ugly and disgusting water.

That should be a start.

i have 4 children and i always took them outside and let them pick out the things that they see and let them tell me about what they think it is and why its their. so each time they kind of teach me something new (which is amazing). you just have to let them explore the world outside and see what they find.
