The dentist says there's no evidence that I need a root canal. The downside is that later the nerve may die and he'll have to go through the crown to do the root canal then.
The tooth is slightly sensitive right now (it has a huge amalgam filling) and sometimes it really hurts when I'm chewing.
Also I'm weighing up an implant versus the crown. Are there any other options?

HAVING A ROOT CANAL TO AVOID THE POSSIBILITY OF ONE IN THE FUTURE IS KNOWN AS PROPHYLACTIC ENDODONTICS. WITH CROWNS, ESPECIALLY REPLACING A LARGE DEFECTIVE AMALGAM, MIGHT MAKE A ROOT CANAL NECESSARY ANYWAY. GETTING ONE DONE IS GOOD PREVENTIVE PLANNING.
IN CASE OF AN IMPLANT, THIS WOULD NOT BE COVERED BY ANY INSURANCE, AND YOU WOULD NEED TO PAY FOR THE IMPLANT SEPARATE FROM THE COST OF THE CROWN. THE AVERAGE COST FOR THE IMPLANT ALONE IS ABOUT 3 TIMES THE COST OF THE CROWN.

if the tooth is sensitive it means that the pulp is still alive, so you dont need to do root canal,

if it's painful when you chew, you should check it to the dentist, maybe the filling is leaking or something

or you use toothpaste for sensitive tooth like sensodyne, it helps a lot to remove sensitivity

for more information juz get the dentist to check your teeth

first of all there is no tooth like #19
if u hav such problem in any tooth , u surely need to hav RCT done before getting crown on it.
implant is also a gud option, but other factors like condition of the tooth and the gingiva need to be considered.
