about 5 weeks ago i had a cold and it lasted about 3 weeks, then it started to clear up, but a week after i started to feel better, it felt like i had a chest infection, but it's starting to feel worse than a chest infection. I've got a headache, thick flem (sorry, i know it's disgusting) a lump on the side of my neck, my throat feels narrow and sore, i'm wheezy. and i'm constantly cold. The lump in you neck Emily is a swollen Lymph Gland. The reason for this is because you immune system is fighting a viral infection you have acquired.
The sore throat and headache are the main symptoms of this. The thick phlegmn and the wheeziness are signs of a chest infection and you may need anti-biotics to help you get over it.
Pop along to your Dr and make an appointment. Hope you are feeling better soon hunny.

Sounds a little bit like your chest infection has just taken hold & got worse. Or you possibly have flu. But you should really go and see a doctor for a proper diagnosis and appropriate medication.
In the meantime, make sure you drink loads of water and try taking a tbsp of honey, a couple of tbsp of lemon juice (real lemon juice) then top it up with hot water. Honey is a natural antiseptic so don't substitute with sugar & the lemon juice will give you a vitamin C hit.
Make sure you go see your doctor too though!

You definitely need to go to the doctor's, at best you have a chest infection and need antibiotics (NB, not a virus as someone else has stated, antibiotics do not work against viruses). My friend's sister in law has just come out of hospital having collapsed at home and then been found to be suffering from pleurisy, so you should not ignore chest infections.

Ms. Simmons,

I am not a doctor...

That 'lump' on the side of your neck sounds like an inflamed lymph node. That may have something to do with your throat feeling a bit narrow.

More of an immediate threat to you is the possiblity of that 'chest cold' turning into a full-blown case of pnuemonia. Please see a doctor soon, so that they can check you out, and get you on some antibiotics...3 weeks plus is a long time to be ill.

sounds like you have an urti (upper Respiratory tract infection) Acute upper respiratory tract infections includes rhinosinusitis (common cold), sinusitis, pharyngitis/tonsillitis, laryngitis and sometimes bronchitis. Symptoms of URI's commonly include congestion, cough, running nose, sore throat, fever, facial pressure and sneezing. Onset of the symptoms usually begins after 1-3 days after exposure to a microbial pathogen, most commonly a virus. The duration of the symptoms is typically 7 to 10 days but may persist longer.Although viruses are the most likely cause of URIs and do not respond to antibiotic treatment, antibiotics continue to be widely prescribed for this illness i have had this several times i know how you feel see your gp

i have this problem aswell and my doctor told me its because i keep getting one viral infection after another. Go to docs they may give you antibiotics. i was told there was nothing that can be done they just have to run there course wich is a bit annoying as i am now nearly deaf from fluid in my ears.

Go to your doctors... I know soem people that have had cold / flu for about a month now. Take plenty of vitamin C and ensure that you eat well. Also, keep yourself hydrated by drinking lots of water.

It sounds like a virus
You should go to your doctor
And take lots of hot showers
Your body is trying burn out what ever is infecting your body by tricking your senses into think you're cold so you make yourself warm... if that made any sense.

get to the doc snow.

could be a number of things but fact that you are wheezy and coughing up phlegm indicates that a gp's intervention is essential.

Go to the doctors. I have no idea what's wrong with you but you sound as though you need medical attention a.s.a.p. Colds don't last three weeks.
