Suicide is a serious thing, if you thought he would truly try to do it,
then it would be your duty as his mate to tell his parents, pastor or even police to protect him, even from himself. Girls come and go but good friends stick together through the good and the really bad.

What can you do, dedicate your life to someone you don't want to be with, just so they won't kill themselves? No. It could be an abuse tactic, lots of abusers use that one. But if you think he's just truly depressed in general, and is obsessing on how horrible it would be to be alone, you should try to encourage him to seek help.

Tell your friend to leave him if that is what she wants to do. It's her call, not his.... if her boyfriend is really that pathetic, then he'll only be doing the world a favor.
