I've been thinking about this for a while. Obviously all service dogs have to learn to behave in public, and correct me if I'm wrong but aren't there organizations that do just that? If you have a dog that's training to be a service dog, even if you yourself do not need a service dog, can it go all the places a fully trained service dog can? Also, on a different note, but related, are service dogs allowed in apartments that otherwise do not allow pets?

In case you're wondering, I'm interested in volunteering to train a service dog (or more if all goes well). I cannot find a place that I can afford that will allow pets (I'm in college at the moment). I may be moving into on-campus apartments where no pets other than fish are allowed. I also get 1/2 price vet care since I work in a clinic, if anything ever came up that required more expensive vet care (also can do no-interest indefinite financing). Just a thought I've been toying with for quite a while now...

A dog in service training is allowed everywhere, no one can stop them from entering a building. They wear a special red vest type outfit that indicates that they are a service dog in training

Service puppies and young dogs are allowed anywhere a fully trained service dog is allowed. They are issued a little dog coat that explains they are in training when taken out. I think the only exception would be an intensive care unit at a hospital for obvious reasons. I see one at the super market all the time. The disadvantage is that you agree to return the animal after a period of time and you must come to terms with the loss and the pain of losing a friend. The benefit is that you are doing a tremendous service.

The laws for service dogs are different from state to state. You need to check your specific state laws on this one. In Indiana a service dog in training is allowed anywhere a service dog can go. We have a vest with patches for a dog in training an another that says service dog after that. My one boy started out going everywhere from a young age.

You always have to ask the manager, owner, whoever's in charge if they allow service dogs in training. In the NYP (New York Post) there was some kid who had a service dog in training that was NOT allowed in school. If you plan on going out with a service dog in training, check before you go.

If you are in California, all Service Dogs In Training (SDITs) are allowed in any place of business and are to be treated exactly the same, with the same rights, as SDs (Service Dogs).

In other states, the laws vary.

Hi, I understand that you are looking for some advice or resources to help fully train your dog or fix behavior problems. If a professional dog trainer is not an option at this time, or if you want to trt training your dog on your own (a great way to bond), I'd suggest you https://bitly.im/aL2xh

A friend recommened it to me a few years ago, and I was amazed how quickly it worked, which is why I recommend it to others. The dog training academy also has as an excellent home training course.

Yes service dogs in training are allowed in all places, b/c they are training. And yes to your apartment question. By law if someone that is disabled and needs a service animal has the right to that. I always wondered the same thing, and we have service dogs in training come in to the bank all the time (where I work) and I asked her the apartment one once, and she said by law apartments have to allow it, but they person has to prove that they must have the assistance of the animal.

It depends on the state laws, under the ada however sdit have no rights but whichever law is more lenient is the one you go buy so if the state law says they have the same rights as service dogs you follow that one but if the state law says something like only guide dogs are protected then you go by the ADA, hope it worked out for you

Yes, they are allowed because they wear a vest that distinguishes them as a guide dog in training. I don't know if laws vary by state, but I'm sure MOST if not ALL states allow dogs for "service" purposes (deaf, blind, mute) in apartments and if they don't, I think someone should be writing his or her congress person about that.

The puppies are allowed everywhere that the adults are, and I think that apartments are supposed to allow service dogs because technically they are not a "pet". I would think that they woulg get in a lot of trouble with they American Disabilities Act if they refused to let a service dog stay their.
