Nothing is missing... grass IS part of her diet and it is a natural part of every dogs diet.. Its like humans adding more fibre to their diet.. same purpose same reason. Dogs know when they should eat grass and they do so to keep the pipes clean and in working order so to speak. If your dog is eating an inordinate amount of grass (like ALL the time followed by lethargy, vomiting etc) she may be feeling ill.. a trip to the vet for a checkup to make sure she has no harmful digestive upset may be in order to make sure she isnt eating grass to try and fix a real illness. Generally dogs eat grass all the time because it is a normal part of their diet, they may eat more to try and relieve an existing stomach problem or digestive upset.. so it is a good idea to monitor how much they are eating.. if they eat more than normal there might be a real problem. My 2 dogs love grass.. every spring as soon as the first grass shoots up they are out there grazing like "cow dogs" as I call them, and contrary to popular opinion they do not eat grass to make themselves throw up.. as I said before they may eat more grass when they are feeling sick and subsequently vomit it up.. but if they are healthy they never vomit the grass back up. Dogs also absolutely LOVE to eat horse dung which is basically partially digested grass, hay, vegetable matter.. etc lol I call them dog "muffets" like that shredded wheat cereal people eat.

Dogs eat grass from time to time so as to get rid of something in the stomach or add something vital to the diet. It is an instinctive action on the part of your American Bulldog.
I have had four dogs during my lifetime and all have eaten grass. My present dog Rupert, a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, eats grass nearly every time we go out.
The eating of grass by dogs seems to aid digestion.

Dogs tend to eat grass due to either an upset stomach from being too full or eating something bad. What the grass does is cleans the gut out as it cannot be digested properly. It doesnt harm them at all. I should be aware on how rich the food is that you are feeding her and also check how consisted her faeces are after she has eaten grass as this might give a clue if her stomach is upset, i.e. very dark faeces means that she might be slightly constipated

I would have to agree with Kelly C. The most common answer you will hear to this is the upset stomach one and it may well be true but this is simply not the whole reason. My dog eats grass every day on her walk almost without fail when she is clearly not ill or feeling ill in any way, I stongly suspect that this is because it contains something missing in her manufactered dog food diet. If I don't eat a food group for a while I start to crave it, all animals have instintcs to make sure they do the right things for them selfs.

Dogs eat grass if they're feeling a little under the weather. The grass helps them to bring up anything in the stomach that's not agreed with them. Cats do it as well so don't worry its not because she doesn't like what you're feeding her

We don't really know why dogs eat grass - some dogs do it more when they have a tummy upset - some dogs just do it all the time because they can! After all -we know our dogs just love to eat...
So you as you are feeding her a 'complete' diet, not allowing her too many treats, and she is a good weight with healthy skin and coat and regular firm poos - don't worry yourself.
She is fine and just having a snack.

I think they're designing pet food to make pet poopies be less smelly and more "compact." I just put this as a question out on the kitty category.
Your dog wants chlorophyll. I think it's because commercial dog/cat food is being designed to cause constipation and your dog is looking for plant matter that will help soften it's stool. I'm not kidding.
Kitties eat grass to help them regurgitate hairballs, but I doubt a bulldog has hairballs! So I think it's the chemistry of the pet food.

some dogs are just silly and like to play with the grass and eat it while they play with it...but it is also a sign of an upset stomach. Dogs are so smart they blow me away, but somehow they know if they eat enough grass they will throw up, which will make their stomach feel better if it is upset. If you are truly concerned just call your vet, and ask to speak to a nurse, tell her the food you feed your dog, and she may suggest an extra vitamin, or changing the food, just in case the dog has an allergy to the food you are currently feed him/her, which I could easly see being the problem. good luck!

Usually dogs eat grass when they have upset stomach.
Maybe you are feeding her something that her tummy does not like that much, what exactly is her diet??
On the other hand my dog eats grass from time to time, however, if I pick some grass and offer it to him, he never refuses!I figured he just likes it, but cannot be bothered to pick it himself, I've an exeptionally lazy boxer......lol

They eat grass to help with digestion. You don't need to substitute this with anything. It's all good. Just think of it as your bulldog trying to get it's five a day.
