You would have to be a real scumbag to consider fighting a dog. My APBT is too busy with agility, TD training (finishing top of her class next week) and playing with other dogs to be bothered. The only thing my dog fights stupid stereotypes. Most of these other answers are absolutely shameful or just plain ignorant.

I don't think the real issues worth fighting against can be solved by dogs, OK? Nor by dogs fighting other dogs. I think people are brighter than that. I have optimism, because history has been so much harder on people all over the world than it is now.
If I'm wrong about the world, though, the last thing it needs is mindless and savage predators to have a tug of war over what's left to us. Imagine if you had a choice of a pitbull and what it costs to rear for a few years, or sponsoring a child who could grow up to be someone literate, healthy, enjoying life - I reckon a vote of confidence in the world would mean spending a few dollars a month on the human being. I love dogs, I really do, but there are so many things stacked against those alive now as things are. It's hard to justify breeding one more type to attack them.

What I want to know is why do you want to know?
Reputable pitbull breeders breed the dogs for COMPANION, not fighting. Those who breed for fighting give those who have companion pitbulls bad names, and evoke public fear of the breed on a whole. BSL fuel to the fire. We don't need that.
Pitbulls are not the only breed of dog that will fight. Nor are rotties, mastiffs, and dobermans. The ultimate fighter? Don't think so. Humans are the only "dogs" that fight for the sake of fighting, and therefore raise an animal to do their dirty work.

YES. If youre ignorant and follow ignorant people that fight dogs! But as far as the ability to cause damage to another dog, the pitbull is one of the worst-or best, however you see it. They can cause massive amounts of damage to another animal. We own 6 pitbulls( including my sons and girlfriends). They are an extremely strong breed. But we need to quit talking about them as fighters because thats what helps us to continue our outlooks on them as mean or dangerous animals. If you own pitbulls and fight them then feel sorry for yourself as youre a loser and should be in jail. If not, then grow up and move on to another subject!

I agree with Nightowl's answer! I have a gorgeous pit and it just pains me to think of people asking questions about dog fighting. I think that pits are the most loyal and compassionate dogs. I don't know of any other breed that has had so much negativity to overcome. I think that education is they key to overcoming the stereotype of their vicious behavior. Seeing questions like this just makes my heart sink. My pitty has a heart of gold and just the thought of someone putting these wonderful creatures into a fighting situation makes my stomache turn.

NO, BIG PUSSYCATS, unless taught to fight, sound of a bursting paperbag would scare the living daylight out of them, friend had one before BREED BAN, it could not scare anybody, put a baby down on floor it would stay there and mind the baby played tag with small kids earpulling and it would LICK them to death, NO they are taught it is not natural for them, add MALAMUTE, for starters and you start something!!!!

no....first, i think it is wrong to raise them for the express purpose of fighting them. secondly...i dont belive a pitbull would stand a chance next to a wolf. or here...lets say you have a pitbull trained to fight...that is what he was made for (in some ppls eyes)....and you have a rodesian ridgeback who hunts and kills lions, that is what he is raised and trained for. if you put the two dogs against each other...i wonder who would win....and do you think a pitbull would win against a bulldog?

pitbulls are the biggest ******* of all dog breeds, the only reason why they are scary is because when they bite you they wont let go.
