I love this question!!! We took our cat to the vet for her check up and told our Dr. about some of her odd behavior, and she told us that our kitty had ADD......so I love your question!! Our cat will, cry, and talk really nice, she will lick carpet at 3 in the morning to wake us up, because she knows we hate the sound, and since she LOVES to drink water from the bathroom sink rather then her own little princess bowl, she will go the the bathroom sink, and cry until we turn the facet on....(yes she is very spoiled.) Now I don't want to give the wrong impression on her though, because she doesn't do this all the time, or to the point were it totally annoys us, she is such a wonder kitty, we love her tons! But it is really funny how cats try to get your attention. Well i gotta go the cat is calling...lol

Wow this is a fun question, such cute responses already! :) My cats do several different things, the older of the two makes this half purring, half meowing "trill" kind of sound from the other side of the house in kind of a "is anyone else home?" fashion, as soon as someone says hears him they say his name and he goes running to them like he's making sure they're really there. The younger one sneaks up quietly and just rubs around our legs in circles, his fluffy fur tickling at us until someone reaches down and touches him - oddly though, he's a super private cat, if two people are in the room he'll dash away the second he's touched so that no one sees him getting pet, but if someone is alone, he'll start purring. Cats are fabulous. :)

OK, lets see....we have 5 cats and they all do different things. One will attack you while you are walking and grab onto your leg and let go and run away. Its a weird way to get attention lol. Another will meow at you almost sounding like a baby. Another jumps onto my lap and purrs and starts rubbing her head against my hand...but I know better with her because I know as soon as she starts purring its not a good thing because usually a couple minutes after she attacks and bites me really hard and then runs away. I always end up bleeding, but I love her so I dunno what to do. The rest are pretty normal and jump on your lap and get plenty of affection!

We have four cats, one almost 3yr old neutered male and his spayed sister, one almost one year old half Siamese neutered male cat, and a baby kitten we found in November. The half Siam (Columbus because he explores) is by far the biggest attention hound. He will first cry at us, and then holler. If that doesnt work, he will just plop himself in our lap. If we are reading or playing GameCube, he will knock the book around with his paw or put his paw on top of your hand on the controller. I have heard the Siams are very vocal. The girl cat is a "daddys girl" and I hardly see her when he is at work; the minute he is home she lays by his feet and kneads her paws on his legs, waiting for him to pick her up. She is quite capable of getting in his lap, she just wants him to pick her up so she feels important. My other male will just "wink and blink" at me kinda, then roll over and show his belly. He is the most laid back out of the whole bunch. And Copper (the baby)...well you know how kittens are! He cries and rubs against your legs, jumps on your lap, anything to get attention. At our house, it usually doesnt take too much of an effort to get petted! Very cute, interesting ?. Looking forward to reading other answers!

My cat ( it is not around anymore, died of old age) would do the same things, bump it's head into my arm indicating it wants me to let it sit on it's lap and stroke it - it does this when it sees me busy writing something. When I am not busy, it makes a dash from afar and springs quite quickly into action and jumps into my lap! That is always too !When it want's to play it will turns on its back and with it paws find either something I am holding like a newspaper or cord from phone and start playing with them.

I AM the cat. When I want attention, I just use my owner like a playground. I jump on his lap and crawl up and down him till he asks me what I want. Sometimes he is REALLY sound asleep so I rub my tail under his nose. When the loose hairs get in there the tickling would wake up Rip Van Winkle.
Or sometimes I just empty my water dish in his lap....

I have 2 cats at the moment, one of which I think would never notice if we didn't exist except for the fact that we feed him.........and the other which is completely human dependent.
She will come up, rub on whatever area of your body is exposed, try to "trap" your leg as you walk by (if God forbid there is a 4 minute period with no food in the dish), or just lick my husband's head (he has REALLY short hair).
She chases me down the hall and "traps" a leg (or two) in hers to get me to feed her, and practically makes me fall down about 30% of the time.
However, she DOES do what you are describing with the gentle touch of the paw on the face, but she ONLY does this to my husband and never to me................go figure................

I have 2 cats - one will "paw" at you to pet her, it's the cutest thing ever. The other will lay on the ground and flop around until you rub her belly.
Also when they're hungry in the morning, they will come in and meow loudly til I wake up.

My cat Spike will stand on his hind legs to rub his head against my hand. His brother Rupert will simply yowl until someone pays attention to him.
