If you like having dreads and they make you happy then more power to you. My best friend had dreads and contrary to beliefs you can keep them clean. He used a wax and special shampoo to wash his dreads. I'm sure any good ethnic beauty salon store will have what you need. Just make sure that when you wash your dreads you get all excess water out of them, because if you don't they can start smelling musty and funky. Good luck

Well, if you decide to do so, remember that the results are permanent and if you ever want another style, it must be cut off. A friend of mine was white and got dreads and his friends didn't know they were permanent. They can't be washed out or redone if you don't like them, so keep that in mind.
They can be kept clean. In your case, however, you can wash them every other day. Friends that I know of from the Caribes don't have to wash it as much, not even for weeks. Black hair is less oily and doesn't smell as quickly or get as oily, thus that is why they look better. That is why dreads are best done on black hair or hair with a very curly hair texture.
It will take longer for your hair to dread also, so be patient too!
Hope that helps

Yes they can be kept clean. The myth about not washing your dreads is absolute nonsense.
My man has waist length dreads. He washes them once or twice a week. I buy him Pantene Shampoo with added conditioner. When his hair is dry I oil his scalp and dreads.
He can do this himself but he likes the attention.
White-girl hair may not need so much oil but they do need to be cleaned and conditioned frequently.

I love the look of dreads on anyone. I love it when they do funky stuff and pile it up on their hair.
I have a very dear friend who never cut his hair until he was 29. The tip of his dreads was his baby hair. He was a lawyer and just pulled them back into a queue. One hunky lawyer. When he chopped them off on a whim, he was amazed at how light his head felt and that his headaches stopped.
However, a few years ago, my friend and I spent 3 nights sitting with her deadlocked boyfriend undoing his dreads. He was a very clean young man, showed and washed his hair daily.
We used oil to slide the hair out and found, despite his frequent washings, we found soil from places we had visited two years ago in his hair!
I think dreads can be kept clean if they are very thin, almost as thin as the braids from corn rows.
One thing to consider is that white girls often have wispy fine flyaway hair. That looks awful after a few days in dreads as the hair slips out of the dreads.

Dreads can definitely be washed. They are natural for african american people with over curly coarse hair. As far as you being white and washing them, I really don't know. Youe hair is probably silky and I would think that anything you use to get the dreads would be washed away if you shampooed your hair. But, if you like dreads I would go for it. Good luck!
