I don't get it, is it free will, or God's will. It can't be both.

No!
I agree with the supposition that free will is apparently a contradiction
to the admonition that we should all be here to do God's will. If you read the Old and New Testament and the Torah and the Talmud and the Koran you see that this is not so.
In Revelations the New Jerusalem will exclude "dogs and sorcerers" and unbelievers to the flames.
(I've never worked why religionists have hated dogs. I love dogs. When they die don't we tell our kids that they're going to "Doggie Heaven"? Is that sacrilegious or what?)
Given free will it seems to me that God's will is that we should help one another. Jesus set the model of God on Earth gave us an example: help the poor people in Third World countries, the poor in developed countries everyone who needs help the physically and mentally disabled.
This goes way beyond dogma or liberty. While acceptance of God and having one's sins forgiven is in itself a guarantee of a place in heaven and one cannot go to heaven if one does not have absolute faith in God I cannot but feel that God would like for more people to go to Paradise or Heaven than are going to make it if we go on as we are . . . . . .
And then there's the question of the devil. If God is so good and powerful why does he allow the Devil and his temptations. Who can second guess God. Jesus was tempted by the Devil and he resisted. This is an example to mankind which would be irrelevant if there was no Devil.
I'm actually headed for the bottomless pit because I just can't bring myself to believe all this!

Yes we have the right to live for our own liberty or freedom but we should give responsibility and accountability for all what we have done in this world.
God gives us a freewill, but God has given us the life guide that should be obeyed by us. if we want a safety life here in this world and the safety life after death.Thjs life guide is the holy Qur'an and Hadith .The holy Qur'an gives warnings and good news for all humans. Its contents are the instructions of what we should be done and its reward/punishment and the prohibitions of what we should be avoided for doing that with its consequences if we do not comply to it.God instructed us for praying, believe in only to Allah the only one God,pay taxes, and donation, love and help others, respect our parents, make a good deed,be a good neighbour, believe in prophets as Allah's messengers, etc.
God prohibited us for gambling,killing,cheating,conceiting,cruel
ing,stealing,drug addicting,laying,adultering,alcoholic drinking
,offending, oppresing, betraying etc.God created us for making the prosperous society , keeping a peaceful condition, being tolerance
and no bloodshed and also no destruction.
Every one should be responsible for all of our deeds the good doings and the bad doings. We will be tempted by satans to do bad doings. So we should have a strong faith if we want to be a winner and satans to be a losser.

Give me liberty or give me death!
My life's meaning is not pre-determined and planned out; I am not a pawn in the games of any Gods, nor especially singled out to be an avatar or martyr. I believe you must find your own destiny and meaning; you must create it. You have something -- life, the here-now, the present -- and must make the best out of it. You must answer why you are here. In my opinion, I feel that the goal of life is simple. It is to thrive and be happy.

Jesus said, as quoted above, "The Truth shall set you free".
The Apostle Paul also said, "It is for freedom that Christ has set us free."
Sin leads to bondage and destruction, just as walking into a bog or wet concrete does, not because God is a sadist.
Jesus came to set us free from the consequences of our sins and those of our ancestors (our sinful nature).

You always have the freedom to ignore the wisdom of the all-knowing creator of the universe (who represents perfect love)...but following such a rebellious path doesn't really lead to freedom. For as Jesus said, "he who sins is a slave to sin."
But as it is written, "the truth shall set you free."

What is liberty? Are you free to murder? Or steal? How about rape? Are you angry with the government for taking away these "liberties"? If not, why are you angry with God? He doesn't expect you to be sinless, no one is.

Yes. If there is a god (which I have seen no evidence of), and god has a will, one may suppose that god would be perfectly capable of enforcing it.

I was told that I don't NEED to obey the will of God... but that if I don't, I'll be held accountable (aka punished aka sent to Hell).
So.... I guess, if you want to avoid everlasting pain, torture and misery, your only option is obeying God's will!
Gosh... isn't choice great?
