A true christian should strive to live their lives inwardly and outwardly like Christ taught us. Love one another, obey commands, etc. Church has hurt many in their human organization (laws, doctrines) and laying guilt trips on me. They do beg a little too much and lay some heavy judgment for those who do not believe exactly as they do. Where two or more are gathered: Now that is the church. We should not be pointing out others sins without exposing our own.

A christian should be someone who lives the truths they proclaim, who is kind and giving, not mean spirited and biggoted. They should be someone who goes out, and does not have a "holier than thou" perspective on life, but realizes that everyone, regardless of religion, or lack there of, was created equally and specially, whether for a specific purpose or just to help someone else along the way. They should be loving, accepting, and content with the life they have.
I feel the church is far far too judgmental...I personally have a uniqueness about me that makes it difficult for me to fit in, and i always feel like an outcast. They are too worried about pushing christianity onto other people, and getting everyones money instead of giving to those who need it. I will say that not all churches are like that, there are many who go out and actually do what the bible has commanded, and i applaud them, but there are still so many churches and "christians" who believe theirselves to be superior to others...
I know you said this question was directed towards non-believers. I am a christian (however you define that label) and i thought that people should know that not all of us are conservative and stuck in their ways...

To answer your first question:
True Christians love God with all their heart, mind and soul and loves others as themselves. This presupposes that Christians love themselves. In addition true Christians demonstrate love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, gentleness, self control and meekness (don’t insists on putting themselves first).
To answer your second question:
I am disappointed by the commercialism of most churches and the failure to emphasize Christ's commandment to feed the hungry, clothe the naked and visit those in prison. Churches are institutions and some leaders are drawn to "service" for power or prestige. Some church members seem to need religion to be good, while others simply want to serve and worship God.

Jesus hung out with beggars and prostitutes. He told people things about life, but in my view HE did not judge.
So, why do his believers think they have the carte-blanche to judge and exclude? I have NO PROBLEM with Jesus or God. I have a problem with people who have grossly misguided ideas and use those as an excuse to put down people they disagree with, and make moral rules that are completely an invention of MAN.
So I quit going. God and Jesus know who I am and know my heart. That is good enough for me, and if they (God/Christ) have a problem with me I'll take it up with THEM.

This is a great question. I look forward to reading the responses from non-believers. I too would like to know and I sincerely hope that someone takes it seriously enough to give a really honest and good answer.

I would think that a true Christian would be like Jesus was, filled
with unconditional love, absolute tolerance for others, and kindness in all activities. Like Gandhi said I love your Jesus Christ
I just don't understand Christians.

As a Christian, I believe they should for one explain why they are hypocrites (because they are sinners and can't possibly follow everything they believe is morally right), they should stop pushing their beliefs on people because it makes them rebel even more, and they should help ALL people (not just the poverty or cancer stricken).

Christians who still believe bigger is better, richer is better, more glitz and glam and $$$$$$ will get you on God's doorstep in no time... absolutely disgust me to no end. (Many Southern Baptist churches and visits around here have made me very bitter)
