Depends just what it is you're doing on the Internet. :P If nothing else, you don't want to wind up with a nasty case of carpal tunnel syndrome.
Seriously, though- anything can be bad if taken to excess. If you're careful with your time and don't get yourself into any sticky situations, you should be fine- but if you find yourself spending twelve hours a day in front of the computer, ignoring your friends and family, gambling your savings away, skipping work or school, or anything along those lines, then you would want to seek some help. The existence of an Internet addiction disorder is still controversial, but a Google search brings up plenty of results for informative sites as well as sites seeking to help sufferers- http://www.netaddiction.com/ , http://psychcentral.com/netaddiction/ , and more. The Wikipedia article ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internet_addiction ) also has a long list of references to check out if you're really concerned.
Sometimes real life is worth a visit.

About 2-3 years ago, I was completely addicted to the internet. I mean damn, I was on it for hours. I never became a nerd, its not really bad, there is no such thing as surfing to much (Unless its porn), and defenetly no lack of social skills. Most of my friends were on it too but eventually we grew up and the online games got boring. Now its the PS2, NFL, and girls lol. Im gonna say it depends on how old you are and how you are socially in life. I mostly use the internet for downloading music, talking to friends, and downloading a porno here and there. O yea, gotta love that YouTube! :D

None of those can happen to you from online surfing too much.
You can only make yourself a nerd.
However, you can get addicted and feel that you have to get online. For example, Myspace and World of Warcraft.
Oh yeah, wasting your time.

I'm a world of warcraft nerd! and i don't feel it's a waste of my time. I'm socializing while i play! although, i know yahoo answers IS a waste of my time. i can't stop answering these random questions! I'm addicted!
