You can file as far back as you had income and didn't already file. Each year has to be filed separately.

If you have a refund coming, you have three years from the original due date of the return to file and still get the refund, so for 2003 you'd have to file by April 15, 2007. You still have plenty of time to file for a 2005 refund, but you might as well do is asap to get your money back. If you have a refund coming, there won't be any penalties for filing late.

If you made $10,000, you probably owed some federal income tax, so whether you get a refund depends on how much was withheld.

Yes you can file back taxes for many years. You might not get the full refund due to penalties. Each case is different. You can do it yourself or have like and H&R Block do it for you. If you want to do it yourself check out http://www.24hourtaxservices.com/prior_year.html
this website is specifally for filing back taxes.

IRS allows you to do your taxes upto 3 year, but if you owe money to IRs you will be penalised for the penality and interest. It is extremely adviseable to do your taxes for both years, most probably you will get refund from IRS.

YOur safest bet is to go to a professional tax preparer who is BONDED. People who use them are almost never audited and if you ever are called in the tax preparer has to go with you and explain everything. If you should get penalties the bond pays not you. Unless you outright LIED to the preparer.
