I insured my son's pickup when he joined the service. It was still in his name. My other son is now insuring it and it's still in his brother's name. This is a 2006 F-150 with $19,000 still owed on it. Nobody had a problem with this, not the lender or insurance companies. I don't think you'll have any problems, but do get multiple quotes if you want the best rate. AIS and AIG also offer good (low) rates.

Some companies do care who the titled owner of the vehicle is and in that case he would have to be the one to insure it. Progressive does not care who the titled owner is, they want to insure the driver. Either try www.progressive.com or call an independent agency and they will be able to help you.

If you went to a company that did care who the titled owner is and you didn't tell them it wasn't you, they could deny the claim as you have no insurable interest in the vehicle..

You have to an insurable interest in the vehicle, meaning, you have to be the registered owner in order to insure it. The insurance company, any of them, will verify ownership by asking for a copy of the registration and/or title.

Your friend will have sign the insurance forms but he can list you as the principle operator of the vehicle and in doing so you assume responsibility for the custody and care of the vehicle. I agree Progressive is likely your best choice.
