Even the low end ones? I'm thinking of getting ones that were meant for a computer ($99-$250), but I'm using them for a t.v.

Don't spend the money. _All_ speakers sound different, and it's purely a matter of personal opinion as to which sound 'better.' Get whatever sounds okay, and don't worry about spending too little. The construction of speakers is remarkably similar, despite the differences in price, and even the cheapest conceivable speaker will not wear out.

And so they put brands on them, but they're meaningless. And they convince you in the store, or in a magazine, or an ad, that one sounds better than the other. It's salesmanship, and they've been doing it since the phonograph was invented over 100 years ago. In fact, they used the same terminology in the 1920's: "transparent;" "nothing between the listener and the music," etc. It's pretty funny, actually.

Advertising works............Bose is far from the best if you really want some good sound loOK elsewhere. Unless your getting their flagship 901s they are about the only ones that sound ok. Let me put it this way if its sold at walmart or target it must not be that great. (Bose is sold at both look it up) at least if your trying to save money get a cheap home theater in a box but go for the one that has separate DVD and receiver not the all in one and dont fall for the "1000 watts!" if it really dished out that much it wouldn't be cheap. a good start up system I would recommend would be a Yamaha mainly for the receiver because everyone knows that Yamaha speakers are not that great but they can sound good for a while then slowly as funds allow replace the speakers with something like Polk Audio they make very good entry level speakers. Other brands I can recommend for speakers that will not break the bank are JBL, Boston Acoustics, Klipsch, all these can be found at places like Best Buy and Circuit City and they sound good and better than Bose. Dont get a set up that is intended for computer use you will be disappointed + the connection may be different than you need and of course the digital sound fields will not be there to provide the surround that a movie can provide.

Speakers are a matter of personal preference. What sounds good to you, may not sound good to me. However, I have never met any person who was really knowledgeable about audio/video who thought Bose were among the best. They are very popular because they have an exaggerated, "punchy" mid-bass. To untrained ears, this sounds like "good bass". Probably their best, most balanced speakers are the 301's which are about $300/pr. Those will sound MUCH better than any PC speakers.
If it were me, I'd buy an Onkyo home theater speaker system (givne the price range you're looking at). You can find them at www.crutchfield.com.

Good Luck

With Bose you're paying for all that advertising. For the best sound per dollar research Magnepan, $399 for the MMG Ws but sound like $1,000+ high end stuff.

The best thing to do is just go to wall mart and just get a durabrand surround sound system it sounds great (not as great as a Bose system) and it only costs $40 and for $60 you can get almost the exact same one but it comes with a 3-disc DVD player

They both come with two rear speakers, two front speakers, one center speaker and a sub woofer. the sub woofer is the receiver for the remote control that comes with it. you can hook up several things to it such as game systems, DVD players, stereo etc. it also comes with a cord that allows you to connect anything with a headphone jack to the surround sound and you can listen to whatever is connected Cd player game boy psp anything with a headphone jack i recommend this system to everyone

Of course not. It's all about you. Audition speakers at your favorite stereo stores. Buy what you think sounds good. Don't forget about warranty duration, service and how do they look next to your tv?

Bose has traditionally been the best in home audio, but their technology has not changed in quite a while. Look into Sony. I have a 750 watt home theater system from them that is actually pretty comparable to a Bose system for 1/2 the price

Any one who says yes is a sucker for mass advertising.

Anyone that says, "Yes!" to your answer has not had the
