I'm a Christian, I'm not afraid of dying because I know I'm going to meet God. The only thing I'm afraid of is if I'm going to die a painful death - I'm afraid of the pain, but I know God will get me through it. Most Christians I know would agree with me I think.

Not only Christians believe in heaven, and not only Christians are afraid of dying. They are afraid of dying without passing the criteria for acceptance in heaven. For you, you are afraid of dying because your present life is your last hope for enjoying everything. If you will say to me you are not afraid of dying, I don't believe you.

I am not afraid of death, yet the ever-present sense that I will be found unworthy from my works as a Christian keeps the notion of death far from my mind.
You see, faith without works is nothing in the eyes of God, so simply "believing in heaven" or whatever will be insufficient. Even the demons cast out by Christ *believed*, so there is more involved in being able to rest comfortably and await the pearly gates of heaven.
Yes, I long for deliverance from this world, but at the same time I say to my Maker each night, "not yet, Lord, I am unworthy". I probably will be saying that on my deathbed with the hope that God will tell me I am wrong.

May I suggest that your premise is wrong? You are perceptive that there is an element of fear in death for Christians. However, that fear is not in dying but in how one may die. You see we all have the assurance we will die, unless we are raptured, so we have no fear of that certainty. The overarching concern, perhaps not even fear, is how one will die. Will we be prepared in terms of our walk with our Lord? Will our family be prepared and provided for? Have we made all amends for those that we love? Of course there are many more concerns of death and our readiness. But fear of physically dying is not a foremost concern.
For in Christ the last breath we take here is the first breath we will take in His presence in our new immortality in His Heaven.
Thanks for a great question. Hope I have been of some help.

A true christian doesn't fear death because he knows what's waiting for him on the other side
I think everyone is afraid of the unknown. It's not the dying we fear but the process that occurs in the act of dying...no one who has ever experienced it has come back and told us this is how it feels... Will it hurt?

Everyone is afraid of Dying in the sense that we know this place and are used to it even with it's problems. The thought of moving on is a big change and while we may know intellectually that it is for the better our physical being is apprehensive

I'm not afraid of "dying" - I tend to get a little nervous when thinking about the possible pain of the process, or the possible degradation of dignity that could be involved...But the actual moment of my soul leaving my body I have no problem with.

My young neice had a heart problem that she was born with. I prayed for the surgery, and everything go better than expectations, in Jesus Name.
Well everything did. Afterward, she had told her mom that she wasn't afraid of dying anymore, because if she did die, she would be with Jesus. God had made the surgery go so well and she went back to grade school & they thought she wouldn't be able to return for the year, etc. She started a bible study at her school.
I am a christian, and I know that I want to be ready, but I know that if I died, I would be with the Lord and will resurrect and be part of the first resurrection (for those redeemed by the blood of the lamb).

I have known many Amish; so long as they are in good stead with their brethren, I have seen no fear of death. There is a longing to "go home" to be with G-d , when the time will come. At the same time, there is a sense that the church (community) will be there to take care of their family, so the fear of leaving them behind is lessened. Nonetheless, when a person dies, he is missed. It leaves a hole in the family, the community, and the fellowship -- yet there is a sense of joy knowing that they have gone to a better place.
I would say that the fear of death is not fear of the unknown so much as fear of where one stands with the L-rd. Those who are secure in their faith have no fear; those whose faith revolves around condemning others are full of fear, since they will never know the security of G-d; only His wrath.

I am a Christian and I am NOT afraid of dying. Actually, I cannot wait, however I am not suicidal and will not do anything to shorten my life. I am simply ready to go whenever my time comes.

It is the act of dying that is frightening to all of us. Death itself once complete leads the Christian to a much better place. Even an atheist fears the act of dying. We all do if we are in our right mind.
