I'm taking my girls for their 4th time tomorrow. They have such a blast when we go. The only thing is, I never see other parents taking their young kids out on the skating floor. I was wondering if anyone else does this with their kids. My girls are nearly 2 and 3 so I know they aren't too young. They love it.

I was just wondering...My mom had me on skates from the time I could walk. I always went every weekend when I was growing up. It seems like no one takes their kids here anymore.

As long as you have a helmet on them its fine try a hockey helmet to absorb the pressure from falls bike helmets don't do anything for this they just aren't as good for that type of fall. You don't need a face cover just the helmet. I live in Canada and its common up here to have your babies on the ICE as soon as they can walk have a great time.(we don't have any roller skating rinks around here but, we do have artificial ice all year)Many kids are even in skating lessons twice a week by 2 or 3 years old.

Alot of the daycares take the little ones skating during the later morning/early afternoon times when the older kids aren't usually there.

My younger brother stole my roller skates when we were little and he learned to skate by the age of 2 all by himself and he wouldn't give me my skates back and he's hide them all the time on me. It would make me so mad. He had a bike and my older brothers' had bike and I had roller skates and he stole them and wouldn't give them back. As you can see it has left a traumatic scare on my childhood. :) He only skated around the house and yard. I know it can be done. I've also seen a lot of preschoolers ice skating with chairs.

I took my 2 1/2 year old roller skating a couple of weeks ago and he did quite well. There weren't very many kids on the rink so it made things easier. he was telling me "I do it myself" quite frequently.

Not very often, but yes!! He loves it. It is a little dangerous I guess, but I can't be overprotective.
